Just saw the fight. In round 7 I thought Tarver looked in bad shape, but Green stepped off the gas. Then Tarver delivers those epic 20 seconds at the end of round 9.
Goodbye Green. Never liked him to be honest. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but I hate Australian boxing media. Much the same as Irish boxing media, they hype up their fighters by beating up ancient champions and declaring their prospects guaranteed future champs based on those victories.
I know everything is upside down in Australia but why the hell was there a $50 PPV on WEDNESDAY NIGHT? What the hell? Whats so important that they couldnt have gotten Friday night or Saturday night?
Did the living legend not wanna pay a few more bux to rent it for the weekend? I thought he got a LEGENDary discount?
In Australia in the winter you have Aussie Rules, Rugby League and Rugby Union on television every weekend. Football (soccer) also takes up part of the winter and summer. For boxing it makes sense to put it on Wednesday night when there are no other sports competing for ratings. I think the hotels and pubs also like it mid-week to bring in the punters.
Tarver has become a living legend, indeed. Two other living legends have fallen and I can fit him into my p4p all time list right about now:
1. Sugar Ray Robinson
2. Muhammad Ali
3. Henry Armstrong
4. Harry Greb
5. Joe Louis
6. Sam Langford
7. Willie Pep
8. Roberto Duran
9. Ezzard Charles
10. Archie Moore
11. Antonio Tarver
12. Danny Green
13. Roy jones jr.
