why would anyone even question who Sergio is fighting these days after what he's done over the past two years?

hes called out Floyd and Pac. he's called out Jr., he pretty much has the middleweight division on lock, and guys like this want to **** all over him and force him to fight Ward or Bute tomorrow. give me a break. i like having a champion reign at his best weight. whats wrong with that?

    • Listen, we all know that Sergio Martinez is the best no matter what Roach or anyone says. Even Ring magazine and many other rate his competition over Pac and anyone else as of late. Martinez would mop the floor with Pac and Chavez Jr and that's why neither was jumping through hoops to fight him. Honestly, I believe that Arum and Roach are more worried of Martinez or a live fighter than the actual fighters. For Roach to say that Cintron beat Sergio shows that homie is just blowing smoke. Top Rank are the biggest match makers on the planet and that should not be debated by anyone because Roach and Arum claim this themselves.

I thought I saw him fight on a TR card. I thought he was being a good soldier by not calling out Chavez Jr. Good, that means he can call his @ss out as well as Martinez. Call out Authur Abraham(give him a welcome back present). Call out Dmitry Pirog and everyone else and get the MW division popping, if thats what he wants to do. He does have options at SMW too if he pleases.

Exactly! How do u go from CHAMP to CHIMP? If he just kept his mouth shut and didn't contradict himself every other sentence, then I'd have no problem with him being the old Lion gracefully dying in the jungle somewhere in the shade. But he roars as if he is still the same King of the jungle willing to take on any other Lion that wants his throne. AND THAT IS JUST NOT THE CASE!

Different promoters, same trainer & gym. Lol Chavez knows what his fists feel like. I doubt he'll give him the shot.

If Sergio Martinez was so weak as Roach stated then a fight would have been made with him by Top Rank....oops.....forgot! Martinez ain't a Top Rank fighter and won't leave Diabella to make the fight. Ain't nothing special about Freddie Roach as a trainer because anyone can pick a fighter at his worst, find flaws or make demands to handicap a fighter for a clear advantage. I would be surprised if Arum lets the WBC put Chavez Jr in the ring with Sergio Martinez. I think they will move up or down and vacate the title because ol Bob lets that happen. Top Rank the biggest match makers in the sport of boxing and that's why their fighters will lose to fighters that was thought not to have a chance like what happened to Lopez in the Salido fight. Saving Juan Lopez for Gamboa but he loses to Salido. Nonito Donaire is Top Rank best fighter right now and he's in limbo at the moment. Roach has a lot of nerve with that statement after all the weak fights we have been getting from his side. Khan is fighting more risks than Manny Pacquiao and Chavez Jr but I guess that is because Bob Arum is not his promoter.

You're not the best unless you fight the best. And we all know belts & ranking don't mean you're the best. A few weeks ago 13 year old Josue Vargas was given the option to fight a 17-0 opponent or the Detroit Silver Gloves 28-0 Champ. He didn't hesitate. The 4x Jr. Olympic & National Silver Glove 100lb Champ said "Bring me the tougher guy." Yesterday, he had local news, CBS, ABC & MTV in attendance watch him leave it all in the ring sending the Detroit kid home with his first loss. Now of course, there are little to no politics and no money involved at this level. That's how true champions used to fight even at the pros!

It is clear as day that Martinez has fought better fighters as of late and called out the so called "best" and top guys but no one has answered the call. I'm sure Martinez is not afraid to fight anyone at this point but wants to see a big payday soon. In my opinion. I believe he should keep fighting solid, regarded guys who want to fight and build up his name continuously because none of these big name fighters will fight him unless his name is major. Sergio Martinez in his last 4 fights has impressed like no one else in the sport. There have been many upsets this year and I love that for the sport of boxing. Boxers/fighters are not fighting the best because the promoters don't want to risk losing to a good fighter but will eventual lose to an underdog and look like crap while doing it. Boxing needs to get back to what it was but doesn't look like it will happen as long as these promoters continue to try to cash in on fighters that haven't even proved anything in the sport and keep their top guys winning to capitalize off of their fame and momentum without risking their resumes.

                  • i think everyone is terrified for chavez jr.
people need to understand that the martinez camp goes after guys like cotto, chavez, pac, and floyd because they bring in the $$$ and they're within reach of making weight for a matchup. guys like bute, ward, pirog, and quillin don't bring in as much money as the other guys, simple as that. one thing i don't get is why HBO didn't let martinez/zbik happen, but martinez/barker...wtf? oh well, martinez's camp better face a top MW after barker, they should get through their heads the money making names besides chavez jr are not going to happen...

Same could be said about pac in '09, 3 fights later everyone's calling his career into question after 3 bad fights.
