Comments Thread For: Kevin Mitchell: I Want Redemption, Give Me Katsidis

I agree, a lot of people seem a little revisionist regarding that Katsidis fight, imo.
There were signs even within that fight that Kevin had the ability to take the play away from Katsidis. He didn't get smashed from pillar to post.
He got caught and responded badly to it. People can say that a lot of Katsidis seemed to shake Kevin. But we tend to talk about intangibles until we're blue in the face - for whatever reason and on whatever subconscious level Kevin wasn't up for taking the punishment.
You can compare that round 3 to Khan's round 10 against Maidana. Khan gritted it out on sheer desire. Mitchell got stopped.
Yep this is boxing, just because Katsidis beat him before doesnt mean he will beat him in a rematch, its like 6 times out of 10 Katsidis beats him and 4/10 Mitchell beats Kats.
People look too much at the loses, this is why I told everyone to bet on Mitchell last night by KO 7/1 odds. Mitchell is underrated fighter and the loss to Kats was better than anything on Murrays record.
When 2 Brawlers get into ring, the outcome is very diffirent each time as opposed to 2 Boxers, with Boxers the guy with the most skill will win 9/10 times, but with Brawlers like Kats? Its a toss-up, 1 punch can change the whole fight.
Loses mean nothing to me, its all about the match-up and if they are brawlers or Boxers.
Its one thing to lose to a Brawler like Katsidis by KO when you had your chances but its another to lose every round to a boxer.
Its sad Brawlers like Tyson, Katsidis have a very short prime/shelf life, when in their primes they couldve KO'd ANYONE in ANY era, but a prime for a true brawler is very very short since they take punishment like noone else.Comment

I like Mitchell but he just doesn't have the physical gifts to beat Katsidis. He for sure has the technical ability to box cute and steal rounds but Katsidis is just too strong for Mitchell and Mitchell won't be able to hold him off for a whole fight. I give Mitchell credit for wanting to avenge his loss but he is just too undersized for lightweight.Comment

Katsidis in his prime? Ofcourse, Kats kills him.I like Mitchell but he just doesn't have the physical gifts to beat Katsidis. But Kats of today is a completely diff guy, like i said above, Brawlers have a very short shelf-life/prime and he is a former shell of himself.
He is still world class but now he's beatable. I wouldnt call him a gate keeper just yet but if you want to be top 10-15 you gotta fight Kats.Comment

I think Murray was not a bad pressure fighter but a bit overrated .I knew he was good at applying the pressure but not as good as Katsidis .I think the only way Mitchell wins this is to prep for the fight of his life and not get caught on the ropes .He was able to get off them last night but not against Katsidis .I think Katsidis wins the second one late stoppage .Comment

I stand by what I say, Mitchell just doesn't have the physicality to be able to beat Katsidis. He doesn't have the physical strength to hold off a pressure fighter as good as Katsidis and I don't think he hits hard enough to stop Kats. Evetually Kats gets to him. I admit that Katsidis has taken a lot of beatings but that's against world class lightweights. Casamayor, Guererro and Marquez are on a different level to Mitchell and probably Juan Diaz too.Katsidis in his prime? Ofcourse, Kats kills him.

I agree with you that Kats is above being called a gatekeep though. He is world class but unlucky to be stuck in a division were there were 2 or 3 possible future halls of famers fighting.
Mitchell should have stayed at super featherweight were he was a good size. There were and still are some good fights there for him.Comment

There's no evidence of this yet.
Guerrero beat him because of a very favorable mix of style and attributes, and Mike still left the Ghost with the badges of a hard fight on his face at the end of 12.
Give Katsidis a chance to bounce back and see how he looks before you decide that he's a shell. You're talking about an extremely resilient individual (physically and mentally).Comment

There is no revisionist history being applied to the Katsidis fight. Even when Mitchell was outboxing Katsidis (for spells of, yes, a whopping 2 and a half rounds), he looked painfully vulnerable, like he could be consumed at any moment.
Mitchell got demolished.
He needs to change things from the first fight and prepare for the war of his life, or Mike will smash him within 5 again.Comment

He did look vulnerable. But Marquez looked vulnerable after picking himself off the floor 3 times to outbox Pac.
I'd question Mitchell's desire to take the punishment as well. And Kats punishes everyone.Last edited by Sparked_1985; 07-17-2011, 12:21 PM.Comment
