The only time he tried to box was when his opponant boxed him. No fighter in history coming from Mexico fighting there first 40 fights in Mexico, fighting nothing but Mexicans will ever be considered a boxer. Its not there style, its not there culture. Mexico breeds brawlers, its just in there blood. Boxing is about hitting and not getting hit, pure and simple. If your getting hit with most of the punches being thrown at you, then you are not boxing my friends you are brawling. Please no the diffiernce.
    Mexico breeds brawlers ?

    Margarito =/= all Mexicans

    Canelo, Morales , Barrera , JMM aren't brawlers ....

        TS is a troll and there's a reason he has negative rep and sounds like an idiot.

        Chavez was a master boxer on the inside. I don't think there has ever been a more accurate boxer on the inside with the ability to cut off the ring the way Chavez did for such a long time.

        Mexico = brawlers?

        TS probably has only been watching boxing for a few years I bet you. Finito Lopez, Barrera, JMM were to name a few of the masterful boxers Mexico has produced. Even Morales showed how he can out box Pacquaio when he wanted to. The difference is, Mexicans LIKE to brawl.

                No,you clearly haven't.Had you done so,you would have seen Chavez's fights against Ramirez and Lockridge - two fights in which he used the ring,gave his opponents angles,allowed them to take the lead and counter punched effectively.Such was the versatility and well-roundedness of Chavez that he was able to box in such a graceful manner.

                And it's "know",not "no",you complete and utter dolt.

                  They choose to brawl, that's what you don't understand. Just like Morales was asked by Larry Merchant why he CHOSE to brawl with Pacqauio in their first fight when he had BOXED him and took a risk and Morales answered him "Did you like it?"

                  Merchant answered yes, and Morales said "Well that's why I did it".

                  Go to :55, his masterful movement and counter punching inside is unmatched IMO in the history of boxing.

                  Yup he looks like a face first brawler....lol

                    I believe Randal out fought Chavez quite clearly in both fights. I disagree that Randal only won because of the point deductions.

                    But i agree with ur other points.

                    The 3 video examples are plain ******. Chavez couldnt fight for 3 minutes of every round against Randal, like he culd when he was a few years younger.
                    He was clearly on the decline, and at higher weights when he fought Pea, Oscar, taylor and Randal.
                    But they were also the best quality opponents he faced in his career.
                    So who knows what would have happened if he was prime.

                    Good post.

                    I do believe Chavez would always have trouble against a good tough boxer who used lots of movement. But Chavez was way more than a brawler, or inside fighter. He could box, but chose to break down and destroy opponents. Very few fast, slick boxers could have lasted till the end against Chavez's constant pressure when he was prime.
