I think either 10-2 or 9-3 in rounds to Lara is a fair score. I don't see anyway that the fight could be scored in favor of Paul Williams.
I have some interesting scores for the Lara-Williams fight
Collapse
-
1. Lara
2. Lara
3. Lara
4. Williams
5. Williams
6. Lara
7. Lara
8. Lara
9. Lara
10. Lara
11. Lara
12. Lara
10-2 could see it as 9-3 or 8-4(if you try to look for rounds to give to Williams out of pity)
Paul Williams took more of a beating in this fight than he did against Quintana.Comment

I explained why in my first post. I watched the fight thinking the worst of Paul Williams, thinking he's some kind of criminal[because of my first time watching it], trying to give the benefit of every round to Lara[the hero; the victim], and surprisingly I ended up giving it to Williams 7-5. Then I watched the fight again, this time trying to give the benefit of the doubt to Williams in close rounds, I had Lara winning 7-5.
So no, I didn't get different scores every time around because get influenced easily, I got diff scores cause I purposely changed my mindset for each of the time I saw it, so that I can see the fight as both a fan of Williams and a fan of Lara, or at least try.
Anyways, I know a lot of people dislike Williams since way before even the first Martinez fight, so I can understand wider scores than mine. But watching the fight the last time, I had it 7-5 Lara. Still had Lara winning, and like some one said, that's all that matters, "every one had Lara winning so that tells you what happened". Lara was robbed, despite my close scores, too many people have wide scores, so I would go with Lara got robbed. But obviously in my scorecard, it was a close fight and the real winner did not get it.Comment

I think many of us got ahead of ourselves on Saturday. The commentary could've certainly played a role in our perception of the fight and so too the "oohs" and "aahs" from the crowd. Add to that, Williams' face was a bloody mess coming into the final rounds and the thudding blows was being landed by Lara especially that left hand.First of all let me start out that, ultimately, I thought Lara won.
Watching the fight again, I noticed how pathetic the HBO crew were acting towards Williams.
First time I saw the fight, I let the people around me, the HBO commentators, the fans saying ooh aah, all influence my first scorecard that now seems laughable to myself, 10-2 Lara.
I watched the fight again with commentary and scored it while having Williams in my head as this evil robber[thanks to HBO crew for this], and I was giving the benefit of the doubt to Lara. And here are my scorecards with some rounds having a little explanation as to why I gave it to the certain fighter, that I actually typed right after each round.
1. Lara
2. Williams - Gave it to Lara the first time in my 10-2 Lara scorecard.
3. Lara - Close round
4. Williams - Close round
5. Williams
6. Williams
7. Lara - Williams takes 1 billion left hand bombs. Lara gets a second wind,
starts to box. Looks more elusive.
8. Williams - Watched this round twice for good measure. Williams body punching was really good in this round; Lara caught Williams with 4-5 clean punches, Williams ultimately outlands him.
9. Lara - Again, using his legs, becomes more elusive, starts boxing more. Left hand after left hand in this round.
10. Williams - I watched this round twice, because it was so close. But the second time around Williams body punching and inside fighting was evident.
11. Lara - Close round. Williams threw more, Lara held a lot. Again, a few left hands from Lara, had the HBO crew going crazy, but ignoring the Williams body punching.
12. Williams
7-5 Williams
Here's my second scorecard and the scorecard which I am the most comfortable with and actually watched the fight very relaxed without listening to those idiots talking down to a fighter like that. Had the whole thing mute, this was the last time I re-watched it. In this one I give no explanations as to why I gave the round to the certain fighter. L=Lara, W=Williams.
1. L
2. W
3. L
4. L
5. W
6. W
7. L
8. W
9. L
10. W
11. L
12. L
Winner 7-5 Lara
As you can see, after I scored the fight 10-2, I got 7-5 Williams and then 7-5 Lara, and realized just how close this fight was, and how horrible the HBO crew treated Williams, verbally.
Williams should not retire, but Lara won this fight. 7-5 Lara is my final score and I urge all of you guys out there to re watch it and score the fight with a leveled head, don't let the HBO commentators get to your head. Watching the fight in mute relaxed me so much, I was really in to the fight and actually felt like I gave rounds based on what I saw not on what I was influenced by. Still, Erislandy Lara came out on top in the end after watching the fight 3 times.
I saw the fight again but didn't score it, but by my rought estimation of what I saw, Williams could NOT have won that fight, and at best (with nuthugging playing a factor), Lara still wins 7-5. I cannot see how that fight is a draw.
I believe that if I was to watch that fight with the sound turned off, I'd probably score it 8-4 or 9-3.
But again, I need to sit down and watch it round-by-round.

Mute the fight just because it's horrible commentary. Don't even mute it so that it couldn't influence your score, just mute it cause it's just horrible. I mean, while Williams was working inside with good bodypunching and good uppercuts that were landing, those guys were talking down to Williams talking about him retiring. And that was the story of the fight. While Williams is doing his thing, the HBO commentators were putting the guy down just talking about a punch that landed in the last round.I think many of us got ahead of ourselves on Saturday. The commentary could've certainly played a role in our perception of the fight and so too the "oohs" and "aahs" from the crowd. Add to that, Williams' face was a bloody mess coming into the final rounds and the thudding blows was being landed by Lara especially that left hand.

I haven't rewatched it yet but I gave Paul Williams 4 rounds, the fight wasn't nearly as one sided as the commentators made it out to be. I'll rewatch later and post my scorecard on this thread.Comment

One should score the fight with the audio muted, otherwise you'll be bias towards Lara. I personally had the fight 8-4 Lara WComment

def bad commentary suprising by roy. thought lara won but i didnt understand what fight they were watching. lara was landing the bigger, crowd pleasing shots. but paul was doing serious work in the clinch and throwing alot makes you look busy. he was landing alot of combinations and took lara's shots well. close fight 7-5 lara imoComment
