yes, he was the best of his era. no, this era is one of the worst for the HW division.
That would sum things up for me. The only heavyweight I have ever heard called 'great' who had an easier bunch of trashcans to fight would be Jack Johnson. Lewis couldn't touch my top ten.

          • You would'nt put a man in the top 10 who beat

            Mike Tyson
            Evander Holyfield
            Vitali Klitschko
            David Tua
            Hasim Rahman
            Oliver McCall
            Gary Mason
            Tyrell Biggs
            Donovon Ruddock
            Tony Tucker
            Frank Bruno
            Tommy Morrison
            Ray Mercer
            Henry Akinwade
            Andrew Golota
            Shannon Briggs
            Michael Grant

evander was past his prime when he fought lewis.
he barely squeaked by klitschko and refused to give vitali a rematch.
tua was out of shape in his fight with lewis and almost KOd lewis a few times.
he KOd golota in the 1st round, so what? so did brewster. the fact that golota was favored in the fight doesnt mean anything.
he KOd rahman in the rematch, so what? rahman sux and vitali will prove that in november.
razor ruddock was FAR past his prime when he fought lewis and he never was really as dangerous as you say he was.
yes, he beat the men who beat him but his TKO over mccall was anything but stunning.

i personally think yes and no.
yes, he was the best of his era. no, this era is one of the worst for the HW division.

is he overrated? yes, i think so, to a certain degree.
is he the greatest HW? HELL NO.
is he the best HW? HELL NO.
is he one of the best HWs? yes.
is he one of the greatest HWs? sort of. he was good. he was great in the ring, but his fight dodging and money grubbing and his inactivity says he wasnt really great.

in conclusion: lewis is one of the best HWs, but he shouldnt be put in the Top 10 HWs of all time. he was the best in his day and being the best in ur era is noteworthy enough, even if ur era isnt noteworthy itself.
here your askin yourself questions, therefore you know the outcome before answering, this is not a 100% fair statement!
he was not overrated, under actually!
he was the best hw of his time,
defenatley ma favourite, but this does not affect my statements here!
                yes there was greater,
and not everyone can be in there prime when some one wants to fight, so in that sense- ali was not at his best when fighting george!
o.k then, how was ruddok at the commonwelthgames? cut up? i think so.
klitchsco was a bum + his bum brother and lewis would have well won that fight if it went the way.
tua wasn't that big a fighter anyway, bird beat him with the flickin jab and tua never even landed a decent one!
and the mccall rematch was a dead cert for lewis' record, not many boxers have a come back on the same fighter straight away!
and you meen since lewis quit due to injury(dont mock coz so did VK)the division has gone crap! lewis was keepin it alive by fighting VK and the choice for lewis to quit when he did was best for him,(in his record peak, not his prime) and this also proves some boxers have it best when not in thier prime!

                    • WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev expects to fight the winner of Danny Williams and Matt Skelton's British showdown next month and admits his dream of coaxing Lennox Lewis out of retirement is unlikely to come true.

The English pair will come face to face in London on February 25, and Russian Valuev - the biggest and heaviest champion in history at 7ft and around 24st - has offered the winner a shot at his world title.

"I think the winner of that bout will be my next opponent," he said.
