We will focus on Miguel Cotto right now. Since 2007 lets see what the MOST Feared and ducked Cotto has done...
Cotto although ko'ing Judah in the 11th round he was getting busted up by the non combination puncher Zab who landed %57 of his POWER SHOTS. Zab busted Cotto up in the process of him getting knocked out. He fought to a draw with Mosley. The fight was so close many thought it was a draw or couldve went either way. Cotto was in full retreat mode at the end as well....
Then Cotto gets beat down and quits vs Margarito who is nothing but a pressure fighter who is slow. Then he gets busted up by the ultra defensive Clottey. We all know the whooping Manny put on him after that.
No way any version of Miguel Cotto from 2007 would've been any match for Mayweather....ALSO REMEMBER COTTO WASNT READY FOR MAYWEATHER IN 2005 WHEN THEY WERE BOTH CHAMPS AT 140 AND BOTH PROMOTED BY TOP RANK. I mean he wasnt ready right? So between 2005 & by the time he fought Mosley in 2007 Paul Malignaggi, Carlos Quintana, Oktay Urkal, & Zab Judah were the preparation he needed to be ready for Mayweather?? Gimme a break....
Since being smashed my Pacquiao, he FINALLY beat an ACTUAL World Champ and didnt get a Championship by winning a Vacant title when he defeated the Hard Hitting/1 Legged Yuri Foreman who has an impressive 8 ko's......I appreciate Miguel Cotto and he has had great fights but he has always been just a decent fighter and never was the elite type fighter to impose any kind of legitimate threat to Floyd Mayweather.
His best win is a disputed victory over Shane Mosley who just dropped back down to WW from 154lbs and didn't even have a title. It took him 37 fights to FINALLY beat an ACTUAL World Champ and even then the caliber of that opponent is c class at best. I respect Cotto for all that he has provided us boxing fans but just because you are a warrior and are tough in no way equates to you having the necessary skill set and smarts to beat Mayweather.
Can we all just put this particular myth to rest?
WHO has JR fought in the past 8 years that is deserving of P4P much less a title ?
be careful not to fall into the same trap you try to set mang.
The Cotto that fought the 1st Margo fight would have had the shot at beating JR.

Neither Cotto or Margarito were ducked or were ever in any position to be ducked.
To be ducked, you have to remain significant for a decent length of time.
When Cotto got by Mosley, which is the most significant win of his career, he lost eight months later by TKO.
When Margarito savagely beat Cotto bloody, he lost six months later by TKO.
The best fighter in the world and of this era was not ducking guys who couldn't even keep their own affairs in order.
You people are desperate. You are focusing on a small window to make an outrageous argument.
Both Cotto and Margarito rose to the top and crashed and burned between November 2007 - January 2009. That about ONE YEAR.
What's the likelihood that a possible world-class fighter only has one noteworthy win in his entire career? Because both Cotto and Margarito have ONLY ONE NOTEWORTHY WIN IN THEIR CAREERS A PIECE!
Floyd Mayweather Jr has been on top for 15 years. Its not a matter of who he's fought, because he's been fighting the #1 and #2 consistently for 15 years. He's beaten the top champions in every division he's been in.
Cotto and Margarito weren't the champions at 147 when Floyd Mayweather first came up to it. Judah and Baldomir were. Floyd fought them as they were the #1 and #2 fighters there.
And now because two fighters that Hispanic fans root for made good for about 8 months, those fans have come up with this conspiracy theory that Mayweather ducked them ... despite Floyd having announced not fighting in 2008 WAY BEFORE either man had done anything worth talking about.
How can certain fans miss or rather ignore that FACT?
And how convenient is it for Cotto fans to forget that Cotto refused to fight Floyd while they were both at 140lbs? Miguel was offered a fight and refused it. Yet in some minds Floyd somehow ducked Cotto?
How does that make any sense? In any way?
Cotto, who hadn't ever beaten a champion until Yuri Foreman at 154lbs, was never in any position to be ducked. Margarito built his 15 minutes off of his win over Cotto, so he too was never in a position to be ducked. Especially when one considers that Margarito, the most feared man in boxing, had already been beaten by Paul Williams.
No one, not just Floyd, is ducking any fighter when that fighter hasn't done anything worth being ducked for.
What some of you are trying to suggest is that "because you say so, if others disagree, they are crazy/******/nuthuggers/etc".
You've got to come with something better than that.

Did Cotto ever beat a champion for a belt BEFORE Foreman at 140 or 147?
The answer is NO!
Both Corrales and Mayweather were up and coming talents when they fought. That was one of the rare fights where Mayweather was the underdog. Its not like at that point Floyd was the #1 fighter in the world.
But what you're attempting to do is take that fact out of context.
Cotto hasn't beaten ANY champions throughout his career until recently.
Mayweather has built his career beating every top champion in and around his division(s) except for Tszyu, who also priced himself out of a Mayweather fight.
Cotto never accomplished that.
Margarito never accomplished that.
There is nothing misleading about stating that Cotto has never beaten a champion before Foreman. Its 100% accurate and pertinent to this thread.
Cotto was an up and comer who has admitted in interviews that he NEVER pushed for a Mayweather fight in the past. ONLY NOW has Cotto ever seriously considered fighting Floyd. Also by his own admission.
Your opinion doesn't change those facts.
