Comments Thread For: Erik Morales is Not Too Impressed With Saul Alvarez

Former three division champion Erik "El Terrible" Morales is not too impressed with 20-year-old undefeated Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, the junior middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council [WBC]. During a recent roundtable discussion with Sal Rodriguez, Morales gave his thoughts on Alvarez's worth as a fighter. While Morales was quite critical, he said Alvarez, because of his young age, has the potential to improve with time.

Be careful Morales, the last Mexican Legend that criticized him .. Canelo challenged to a fight .... despite his 3 weight class advantage and being almost 18 years younger

I disagree with the combination punching criticism.

I also think his power is decent enough for 154.

Overall not a bad assessment of Canelo.

Morales talks too damn much. Everytime he talks about a different fighter it's to say something negative. I'm not a huge Canelo fan but I'm not a Canelo hater, either. What I do think is that Canelo is the best 20-21 year out there in the sport. Do you guys remember what Morales looked like at 20-21 years of age? He wasn't as good as when he was 23-26. I mean, at 21, he struggled mightily against the 39 year-old Zaragoza; and was huffing and puffing when he finally knocked him out. But Morales got better! The same way, look for Alvarez to get better (and I do see him getting better)... Also, what a back-stabber Morales is. The young guy, Alvarez, was there for his fight (against Maidana), supporting him and cheering him on, and he comes out with these statements! If indeed he really feels that way about Alvarez, then stay quiet. There's no need to kick another man down, especially a 20 year-old who looks up to you... No la chinges Terrible. Esas son mamadas!!!

Canelo has plenty of skills but he was guided to a title with the least resistance and fought 2 Brit's in a row. On top of that, 3 fighters have been mentioned next and not ONE of them is rated in the top 10 at 154. If he signs to fight Vanes, Trout, JCC...any one of those, I will give him credit. But his cash cow gravy train setups agenda is OBVIOUS.
