im a fan of p-will... and its sad to see what happened. basically, the judges enabled him to continue his career... im astonished of the lack of concern from his corner & management. paul was taking punishment to the point of REAL long-term damage. i feel if he got handed a loss, he mightve hung em up & call it a career... but with this crooked outcome, his management can move forward instead of ending it.
regarding the boxing vs mma thing... alot of those judges also judge mma... i think those judges do both, i wouldve sworn i saw adelaide byrd judge an mma bout (i could be wrong)... both sports have to report to the same athletics commission, so i wouldnt be surprised if judges are being recycled. the thing about mma, the fighters get bonuses based on PERFORMANCE... so there is an incentive to ENDING the fight on a definitive note... but in cases that it goes to scorecards, mma suffers the same tragic judging. basically, judges dont do much when majority of mma fights end in KOs or tapouts... with boxing, this wave of safety-first "slick" fighters depending on 12 round decisions REALLY risk running into bad judging... its sad, but it seems the judges for p-will/lara were paid off... im expecting GBP to appeal this, or really pull some strings for a rematch. i doubt HBO wants more of p-will... depending on how much pull haymon has with them.
this poor cuban kid is left with an undeserved blemish on his record...
