The thing about MMA is they do a better job at connecting the audience with tomato can bums. They get guys who are like 6-4 and give them a TV show, hype their name, and allow the fans to get emotionally connected to them. And then they get knocked out in one round. Knockouts happen in boxing all the time. Just watch ESPN FNF. They have tomato cans that fight their hearts out The difference is we don't give them story lines, put them on Tshirts and video games. So there is so emotional connection when you see a guy on FNF get KOed.
A Day When MMA Knocked Out Boxing

UFC is a brand, and if you're a part of it you get a shot. thats why some of their events you'll have a couple title bouts with an undercard of hopefuls. Boxing give you the exact same card when it's a PPV. fights on HBO and SHOWTIME as well as Friday Night Fights are live for free on cable so they won't air the first few fights, the four rounders, or the club fights. If you got to a live Boxing event you'll see a gang of fights. the only difference i see is that the UFC charge $50 for every event no matter who's on the card.It all boils down to how they are ran. UFC can put on great shows because they have the rights and souls of top-tier fighters, so they are able to make the best matchmaking possible. Boxing has a lot more complex, greedy system than that because majority of the time, promoters don't have to many top level fighters on their roster. And given how many promoters there are out there, the chances of having more than two great fighters on their roster is extremely slim if you're not Arum or a Golden Boy. Also weight classes play a huge part. There are only 7 weight divisions in the UFC. ONLY 7! The chances of great fighters facing each other is very high. Especially since in MMA it's encouraged to add bulk and muscle, so staying at a comfortable weight is a bit more efficient. So weight class fluctuation doesn't happen nearly as often as boxing, considering the amount of classes boxing has. Pacquiao has won titles in more weight divisions, 8, than UFC's number of weight divisions, 7.
In MMA, there is far less competition against other companies. It's basically just UFC, Bellator, DREAM, and uhhhh, I don't know. Now the equivalent in boxing is Top Rank, Golden Boy, Goosen, DiBella, Gary Shaw, Don King, and thousands of others. And lets not forget these promoters don't normally cross promote all that often unless they have the advantages in whatever it may be. Normally if they have the bigger fighter than the other promoter, they get dibs.
So basically, MMA has much more control over making bigger cards with worthy undercards and whatnot. They are able to produce exciting fights due to their overall control in matchmaking.
I look at it like this. MMA is entertainment, Boxing is a sport.Comment

I'm so sick of the propaganda war. I used to get riled up but I am beyond caring.
So a fight that tens of millions watched was defeated by a PPV which could barely do 300k buys? These snot nose MMA fans will never let go of their grudge against boxing. FYI Overeem vs Werdum II 'killed' MMA since that was for the linear HW MMA title.
Entertainment factor for 2011
boxing > MMA, by a lot.Comment

mma isnt even a "sport" ...its legal street fighting
if you want to watch that **** then go to your local bar, tap a drunk guy on the shoulder and tell him "i saw that guy over there grabbing your girls ass" and watch the brawl ensue... you will see 2 drunken fools swinging ridiculous wild haymakers that miss the target by 10 feet and when they do land 1 of 2 things will happen
-the guys punch is so weak since he has improper technique that the guy that gets hit wont even feel it
-the guy will get knocked out cuz he has a glass jaw
this is the SAME ****ing story for every mma fight i see. bunch of bums swinging wildly until someone lands and cracks the other guys glass jaw. there is absolutely no stand up technique whatsoever. anybody who has competed in boxing or trained in it for years can tool 99% of the mma fighters in a strictly stand up fight. without their ***** **** grappling they all get knocked the **** out
for your info i used to be a big fan of MMA but boxing is still king and always will be. i watched some of the fights from 132 and saw glass jaw wanderlei silva get KO'd in 27 seconds by a guy (leben) who has no technique at all. they were hyping this fight up as the "fight of the decade" and it failed miserably ...why has nobody written an article about how much of a ****ty fight that was? funny thing is everybody talks about lebens "iron chin" but whenever he has fought a decent boxer in his career hes been knocked out in seconds
...i guess anybody can have an "iron chin" when you are fighting bums who cant strike for **** lol ..the sad **** is fights like the one i just described arent on undercards ..no, they are the ****ing MAIN EVENTS of PAY PER VIEWS. you will never see trash like that on a boxing pay per view, only professional top notch athletes, not bums.
mma is glorified street fighting. what the **** kind of "sport" allows its participants to cut a man on the head, then stick their fingers in the cut to try and make it bigger, so that blood gets in his eyes??? that isnt a sport, thats ****in cowardly street fighting. and **** like that is perfectly legal and the fans cheer for it. and **** like that happens often too, its a disgrace. mma is the "sport" where you can win 24:30 minutes of a 25:00 minute fight and in the last 30 seconds your **** wrestler opponent can take you down, elbow your forehead and open a gash, and force you to lose. its cowardly and so are its participants. if you wanna see **** like that go to the ****in bar on friday night or download bumfights videos or watch old episodes of jackass. its probably right up your alley
by the way pistol whip, fedor was a ****in fraud. fought nothing but bums all his career who mostly had losing records or were middleweights, just like his next opponent
:****you:

Typical MMA fight
1st round: 5 mins of F level kickboxing/boxing
2nd round: take down, lay on eachother for the rest of round
3rd round: both gassed out, throw pathetic slow strikes, guy who gets the last take down wins round on top doing nothing
but boxing is the boring sport?
Also it seems like most of these guys punch like girls. How can a 170+lb man punch somebody square in the jaw in those tiny gloves and not K.O the person? Weak ass hands........Comment

I am one of the few bigger guys on this site that enjoy MMA more than I enjoy boxing. I grew up in different types of martial arts, so when it came to combat sports, Mixed Martial Arts and Kickboxing appealed to me more than boxing. With that being said, the guy who wrote the article is a moron. I love how a lot of these writers try to justify either sport by comparing two event. I just find it ironic how when I go to MMA forums, you get morons who get all, "boxing is dead! It sucks! All they do is throw jabs all day! They're *******!!!! A good MMA fighter will take them down and kill them!!!!!!!" then in boxing forums I get, "MMgay sucks!!!! These guys are gay, rolling around on the ground like ****s!!!!!!!!! A good boxer will knock them out cold!!!!!!"
I've said it before and I'll say it again, when people try to compare the two sports to make some seem superior to the other, it sounds horribly ****** and ridiculous. Apples and oranges. This article really doesn't surprise me, let's be honest here, how often do you hear a writer who is an obvious fan of one sport write well about the other when it comes to comparing and contrasting??
Truth is, I don't expect everyone who's into MMA to get into boxing, and the same vice versa. That's what happens when you get a group of people together who are into a certain subject. Some people love football and hate soccer, some people love soccer and hate football, some love both. Not a big deal.Last edited by Left2theliver; 07-08-2011, 10:41 PM.Comment

Youre an idiot. The bigger mystery is how anyone could punch someone square in the jaw with those littlr gloves without breaking their wrist.Typical MMA fight
