Not too familiar with the older "great" British boxers, but the best British boxer of this generation has to be Calzaghe, and i don't even like Calzaghe. (as a boxer)

Just about all of Lewis & Calzaghe's marquee wins were over great boxers who were for the most part, past their prime. The difference is, Calzaghe went his entire career undefeated, while Lewis has 2 KO losses to B-level fighters.

Calzaghe's win over Hopkins > Lewis's win over Holyfield.

What about Lewis's great win over Vitali?

Lewis's win over Vitali is equivalent to Calzaghe's win over Kessler.

I don't agree with that, I consider Vitali a far superior fighter than Kessler. I think Vitali has much better wins than Kessler too.

Vitali is vastly overrated. Kessler has done just as much (if not more) with his career in his respective division as Vitali has in his.

Kessler's win over Froch > Everything on Vitali's resume

Plus Kessler never quit like a beyotch during a boxing match.
