Emmanuel Steward: "Haye fought like a punk.."

No but sometimes you have to open your opponent up and take some more risks, Haye didn't use his legs as much as you are making out, Wlad just wasn't throwing because Haye was almost always in a position to counter, and wlad did not want to risk an exchange. I am not cricising him, but to become the superstar he wants to worldwide he has to produce more exciting fights and action even if he leaves himself open. The way he fights does not capture the imagination, he has a winning formula but he needs to tweak that a little and become more exciting, or people will not remember him for the great fighter that he is, they will remember him as being a boring fighter, which is a shame. Maybe Haye wasn't the right fight, but from now on he needs to really step it up and destroy his opponents within 6-7 rounds, not pick away at them until the latter rounds, it is not good enough!
Wlad is making excuses and so is Steward, Haye was in range on awful lot and he was just as hesitant as ever. It was like the excuses Roach and Khan were making about McCloskey, it is up to Khan to find the openings, but they both complained about how defensive he was. Thing is I will let Khan off because he just came off the fight of the year. I would like to see Wlad step up, I think he has it in him he proved his chin against Haye to a certain extent.Comment

Neither fought that ballsy,if wlad threw more combso he would have got more back from haye,it works both ways.
wlad threw more and landed more, but wasnt adventerous.
haye landed soem good punches.
wlads retreating and blocking stopped haye landing more.
you go and fight someone with 30 pounds extra on them who is also skilled and cautious.Comment

Actually Steward was not making excuses for Wlad, he said that he wasn't they type "to force a knockout like Hearns..." and that "I have learned to live with that". Don't forget Wlad still has a higher KO% than Lewis, so Wlad's legacy is safe in that respect. 84% KO (which will probably go up) is damn good for a "boring" fighter.Comment

I respect Wladimir a tonne. Not going to the body (and I know his height and 'fighting tall' has something to do with it) seems to be a bit of a flaw in his style. Mind you, I know he is an extraordinary boxer and athlete. I always root for Wladimir, but I would like to see him mix it up to the body a little.Comment

The thing is Wlad did what he always does, it was Gayevid who was supposed to be someone different and do something different, especially from his pre-fight talk. Gayevid kept on yammering how Wlad is "jab, jab, grab" and how he won't let Wlad do that to him, and that is exactly how Wlad did it, although Gayevid was right in one respect - he didn't let Wlad grab him, he just fell to the floor every time even a whiff of a clinch came. All in all, nothing surprising from Wlad, his usual dominating self, controlling every minute of the fight, working behind the jab, and stepping back when in danger. It was Gayevid who needed to bring something no other opponent ever brought against Wlad, to bring back the Sanders II version in there, but he instead punked out. I expected Gayevid to lose, but I didn't expect him to punk out. All that bravado, and he was a vagina in the ring, and then blamed his little pinky toe on top of it. The Excusemaker should be ashamed of himself.Neither fought that ballsy,if wlad threw more combso he would have got more back from haye,it works both ways.

I am not going to have this debate, look at what Wlad can do in a boxing ring, and then look at how boring his fights are. There is no excuse...he is not the fighter he was in 2004-05. Wlad's legacy in your eyes might be secure, but I am telling you he will only get universal acceptance when he starts producing more exciting performances. KO % matter **** Haye had a 90% ko ratio, manny pacquiao has like 60% ko ratio, now out of the 3 I know who I would rather watch. Wladimir has had many...many fights and ko's against bums. He needs to step up the aggression and be the fighter I know he can be. He needs to show more punch variety and combinations everyone knows he has them.Actually Steward was not making excuses for Wlad, he said that he wasn't they type "to force a knockout like Hearns..." and that "I have learned to live with that". If he is clearly winning the fight, I don't think it is up to Wlad to take the risks.
One guy accepted winning and didn't take risks, while the other accepted losing, and didn't take risks.
It was up to Haye to try to find a way to win the fight.Comment
