Boxing is so much a head game. Boxers give up when their minds tell them to. Happened with Hagler, happened with Liston, and you could argue it happened with Roy Jones the other night.

Hagler is a big action star (or was) in Italy.

Hagler did asked for a rematch to which Leonard said, "yeah,in a couple of years." Hagler did not want to wait and retired.

Leonard is a sly and tricky strategist. He gave Duran three weeks notice for the rematch. Waited a few more years before taking on the older Hagler. Switched the 15 round fight with Hagler for a 12 rounder. This one I heard but can't confirm - Leonard picked a ref that breaks inside fighting too soon. Flurried in the last 20 seconds of the fight which would make him look dominant.

Yeah something along those lines, Duran used to party and gain a lot of weight in between fights, Leonard saw an opportunity against him by making him an offer he couldn't refuse, Duran had to lose like 35 lbs in a month.

This resulted in the "No mas" fight, great strategy from the Leonards camp with Angelo Dundee leading the pack.

Hagler knew his skills had eroded and didn't want to be that guy who continues to fight and embarrass himself. He lobbied for an immediate rematch with Leonard, but Leonard was no dummy. He wouldn't give the rematch.

Much respect for Hagler for leaving at the right time.

                Roy Jones are you listening?
