Never thought I'd say this but I think Manny Steward is overated.

This is not a knock on his accomplishments and he's still a very good trainer, but when you have fighters like Wlad, Dawson and Cotto - who have huge advantages over their opponents... quicker finishes / or greater domination should be expected. He's done good to get the wins, but his abilities as a trainer are blown out of proportion.

Now someone like Roberto Garcia is well on the right path, and I hope he gets his proper props soon.

I think obviously he is now since he's more of a part time trainer than anything, he's an old man. Back in the old days he was there developing young guys, and staying with them as they grew. Now he just basically steps in and trains guys who are already big names (for the most part).

Garcia is doing what Steward did years ago. He's at the gym everyday, working with young guys and helping them develop. That's his life, that's everything to him. Steward has been there, done that and of course has a nice job with HBO.

Been saying this for many years now.

Manny Steward is HOF Trainer, no question.

But, he is slightly overrated IMO.

I would never imagine comparing him to Ray Arcel and Eddie Futch like some people in recent years have done.
