    Chin Checked

Something just occured to me about the fight Saturday.

Castillo, despite 4 TKO losses, had never been down, or really hurt, in any of his 59 prior fights. The last fight against Corrales he was visibly wobbled a couple of time before the final barrage of punches put him out on the ropes.

Will this affect his performance at all in the rematch? Will having his chin checked hard and found wanting a few times in a brutal fight make him hesitant at all? Looking at the kind of punishment he dished out against Corrales, seeing him the next day all swollen and puffy, barely able to see through the slits where his eyes were supposed to be and knowing the man still got off the canvas twice and beat him until he was flailing on the ropes, will it give him pause? I would like to think not, as I'm sure he would, but I'm not sure. It must be demoralizing to see the kind of damage he inflicted and know the man still had the heart to beat him.

I know some people will bring up the mouthpiece. It's irrelevant.

Can you get back in the ring with someone whom you gave everything you had against, whom you savagely beat, and still got knocked out by?

I was thinking about this today actually, so good post...
I know from personal experience that it can make a big difference to your ability to take punches.
I think Corrales will stop him earlier this time.

From what he has said Castillo doesn't seem to be bothered by it. He knows he got careless and got caught.

      Castillo by late stoppage.

Corrales hurt Castillo on a # of occasions.
But, Castillo stood up to punches that would have murdered any other 135lber.

Castillo's chin will be as sturdy as usual. But, like the last time, it will depend on just how many times it gets blasted.

As a Castillo diehard the Awesome Corrales power has been on my mind for months...now it is all I can think about.

I have got to believe that after about 3 or 4 rounds we are going to see one fighter not being able to keep up quite the pace of the first fight, I believe whoever shows the first sign of weakness is the guy that is going to go.

We can talk and talk and talk and I have done as much as anyone on these two...just a few more days and we all will find out.

My heart says Castillo, my brain says...."I got no ****ing clue"

We'll find out soon enough. Corrales will be able to land those power punches again. Castillo is still a young guy and probably has recovered from the last beating.

Corrales didn't exactly survive unscathed so his sturdiness is questionable too. The body can't take too many savage beatings before it goes into decline.

castillo has one of the hardest chins in boxing today. except for his loss to corrales, all his TKO losses were because of cuts... so i have heard.

but its true that castillo has never been down. meanwhile, corrales has been KDd 10 times in 4 fights, and those were not flash KDs.

its clear that castillo's chin is far superior when compared to corrales'.

But, Corrales is definitely the harder puncher.
They basically cancel each other out !

Corrales hurt him before, except it was at the ending of a round. Had it been with 1.5 minutes left on the clock. Castillo would have kissed the canvas.

If Castillo honestly thinks it came only from a mistake on his part, he's sadly mistaken.

                    right.

                    i score it like this:

                    Power: corrales 10, castillo 9
                    Speed: corrales 8, castillo 6
                    Stamina: corrales 9, castillo 10
                    Chin: corrales 6, castillo 10
Heart: corrales 10, castillo 10 (duh)
Technique or Skill: corrales 8, castillo 6
record vs quality fighers: corrales 5-3, castillo 3-3

Score: 5-2-1 Corrales... but i still think castillo will win.
