Comments Thread For: Team Klitschko: Povetkin is Not in Wladimir's Plans

Bernd Boente, the manager of WBO/WBA/IBO/IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, says undefeated Alexander Povetkin is not in the immediate future plans of his boxer. A recent article on BoxingScene.com disclosed Povetkin's goal of getting a title shot in the near future. The Olympic champion is ranked at #2 by the World Boxing Association, which is the title Wladimir captured last Saturday in Hamburg with a dominating decision over David Haye in Hamburg.

Wlad should fight the winner of Chisora/Fury or Arreola, Povetkin had his chance two times and refused to fight because he "was not ready" ... I think he was the #1 contender for the belt the second time but Atlas advised him not to fight Wlad.

Povetkin needs to re-establish himself with a win over another contender before he even thinks about getting a title shot.

There are many more deserving contenders right now. I'd like to see Wlad in with either Arreola or Dimitrenko next. If Boytsov is healthy and has a warm-up, he'd be a decent opponent as well.

Eventually I'd like to see the Klitschkos fight Helenius, Perez, Pulev, and the winner of Fury-Chisora, but it would be better if those up-and-comers got in at least 20 pro fights first.

Povetkin needs another trainer. He's going to rot on the vine!
