lol at this era of boxing being called artistic in comparison to old fighters like Ali, Foreman, Louis, Leonard, Hagler, Frazier, the list could go on. I certainly like Wlad but jab, stall, jab jab jab, stall, walk around a bit, jab stall and repeat is not my definition of artistic. I disagree with Mayweather as an example however, he is an excellent fighter with loads of skill

They need to re-institute that policy. How many more Mosley/Haye-like fan robberies can the sport endure. Guys talk a good game 'I love a good scrap', 'I'll leave him quivering on the canvass' and then when the bell ring they get on their bike and want nothing to do with a fight. This disease of safety first boxing is what's killing boxing.
Floyd
Bernard
Ward
KLitschko
Adamek
Dawson
David Haye (ya he beats on cans but his running and standing outside the pocket for 99% of the fight = boring)
I remember Tyson used to talk about boxers in the old days wouldnt get paid if they stank out a joint. Jack Johnson didn't get paid for several fights because of this.
LOL @ this crappy era.
Don't know how the system would work but maybe withhold PPV revenue via a commission vote or something like that.Comment

Ali had a mouth so that made up for his sometimes lacklustre performances but he still had the activity to make up for those decisions.
Sweatpea is boring as ****. Larry Holmes is boring as ****. None of those guys have fights that have re-watching value. if you play a sweatpea fight on a random friday night, the shopping network would get better ratings.Comment

No, but I'm damn sure you wouldn't return to that restaurant.
If you want to see "quality combat" of nothing but toe to toe action and battles than MMA might be good for you, Boxing was never about mindless exchanges, it's a thinking mans sport, chess if you will, now MMA that's some checkers for your ass, go in there and do what you can to smash your opponent.
I think you're a spectator of the wrong sport.Comment

I've been a boxing spectator my entire life. I grew up in the Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield and Lennox era.
you're telling me what Holyfield and prime Tyson, Bowe did were mindless exchanges?
GTFOH moron.
They were real fighters.
Now I'm just a sour old school fan that got burnt time and time again. Like when the management changed, I keep my hope alive that the warrior spirit should resurface here and there ala Ortiz vs Berto, Pac vs Cotto, Maidana vs Ortiz, Maidana vs Morales etc. but my heart is getting colder. nobody wants to take risks anymore. nobody wants to go for glory anymore at the highest level.
lacklustre decisions are killing the sport. period.Comment

I dont know where this action wreckless brawler era was? When Tyson was KO'ing bums? Ali and all those guys from the 60's had tons of Snoozers, just because you see one or two exciting fights on ESPN Classic doesnt mean they were these amazing action fighters. Boxing has always been a chess game, you wouldnt last very long if you came in like a dog and swung for the fences, go watch Prizefighter if you want to see that.
Just because someone swings for the fences and gets a quick KO, it doesnt mean they are any good, drop a top 10 HW into Prizefighter and they will get 4 1st round KO in brutal fashion. Drop that same HW with a Klitschko and they lose every round and get knocked out in the process.
Where is this illusion that boxing was so much better before in the past? People like to cling on to history but they have never seen it except a few grainy videos on the internet. Did you think people "in the good old days" would go in like robots and wack-em-sock-em? They might have but they werent good, the talent level is so much deeper know that its hard to get a edge in class, thats why when you see a truly great fighter dominate fighters it makes it even better.
Today fighters train like those in the past never did.
Technique is way better
Food/Supplements are way better
Dealing with injuries is better
We are smarter these days.
Back then there was no big amateur fighting, it was just hey you look like a good scrapper, you wanna fight this dude on sunday?
Or I heard you were the best fighter in this town, you wanna make some money?
Only very few dudes back then actually trained full time and were supported by fighting, they just fought on the weekends and worked during the week.
Today you got fighters dedicating their whole life just to boxing with all their needs taken care of, they got trainers telling them what to eat and when, its a whole diffirent sport these days.
Pickup a few books on Sports Evolutions, you will see ALL sports have changed so much that you cant say "where da warriors at". Its like taking Michael Phelps or Usain Bolt and dropping them in 1940's. They beat those records by 50-100%.
As time goes on the level of difficutly and margin of error goes down because everyone is pretty much on the same level field and only the few gifted shine thru, those who worked for it.
Some people just dont appreciate it, you should go to Thailand or something and watch bums knee each other in the face all day if you want to see action, or go watch MMA which is such a crapshoot and luck that the best fighter could lose 3 times in a row due to luck.Comment

Wow, being from the Tyson, Holyfield, Bowe era tell me you're atleast 30, and act like a child, so I'm a moron because I don't agree that bloodbaths are what define Boxing?..lmao! OK!..I've been a boxing spectator my entire life. I grew up in the Tyson, Bowe, Holyfield and Lennox era.

All I'm saying is I can appreciate the Gatti-Ward type fights, but when I really sit there in awe is when I see how a 46 year old man in Hopkins can whoop on someone 20 years younger, or how Mayweather can have 41 wins and 27 knockouts and I don't think his face has ever been swollen, etc..
I guess it's the fact that my own son boxes, and his role model (in the ring) is Mayweather, I can't argue with that, I'd rather him fight and come out like Mayweather, rather than Gatti, Ward, Corrales, Castillo, etc.
I spectate the intelligence in the ring, you watch for the KO's and blood, people can't love the same qualities of a fight. I just love Boxing in it's entirety to dismiss a good brawl or a great clinic in the ring.Comment
