I honestly feel that Americans have overstated Oscars worldwide appeal....while he did make the most money in America.......his worldwide appeal compared to Mike Tyson is almost non existent....

onto the thread, gotta go with Tyson, that guy is front page news and probably the most recognisable fighter/former fighter on the planet, whether he's had a positive or negative impact is debatable, but no doubt about it he has changed the face of boxing...

Mike Tyson and its not even close. People in poor 3rd world countries with no TVs know who Mike Tyson is. No poor kid in Africa or South America knows who the **** PBF, De la Hoya or Manny is.

Stats say completely opposite. Oscar has made more money WORLD WIDE than any other boxer, even when you compare it to the era it was in.

People around the world know who Oscar is, and he brought boxing to a much broader base than Mike Tyson did when you take into consideration the appeal Oscar had because of his looks and being the "good guy".

People loved Tyson because he was a monster in the ring but remember, Tyson's great years were only about 3-4 years at most. Oscar was relevant for over a decade.

The last 20 years, since 1991 its been ODH, who brought a tremendous amount of young female fans to the sport and Floyd, who has been able to sell huge despite not being a KO artist. Together they combined to put on the largest grossing fight in history, even though the fight wasn't great.

Not to say tyour lieing, but do you have a link ......cuz thats amazing as I always thought that Ali would have generated the most, when you consider inflation etc....

I guess I can only go on what I see in Europe....but Tysons popularity dwarfs Oscars....despite not being a great talker IMO, Tyson is still relevant in the public eye here in Europe compared Oscar......like I said about Wladimir Klitscho...the only fighter they would show while growing up was Tyson.....

the answer is easily ALI. Ali is the one of most recognized athletes ever, right up there with jordan, jackie robinson, babe ruth, etc. comparing even tyson to ali is fairly ridiculous. tyson was huge and still here in the states but ali is and was a world wide known figure

Tyson is first on that list followed by ODLH

Hamed brought big bucks and attention to the lower weights

                    George Foreman was very popular
