Comments Thread For: Gonzalez Rejects Gamboa, Chavez-Manfredo Not Close

A source close to featherweight contender Yuriorkis Gamboa has advised BoxingScene.com that WBC champion Jhonny Gonzalez rejected a "lucrative six figure deal" to face Gamboa on September 10 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The source reached out to BoxingScene in response to an earlier story where Gonzalez made numerous statements regarding his willingness to face Gamboa in September.

Indeed, why would a featherweight turn down an opportunity to fight one of the biggest names in his division and make six figures in the process? Gonzalez must've watched the Solis fight and said, "No, thanks."

                    lol Please...

You guys (Mexicans) have a slew of champions but you, "onechance87", want to own every division. So when a monster like Gamboa comes along, a guy who electrifies real boxing fans from all walks of life, you get upset because he isn't Mexican. Why is that? Are you that insecure?

Yuri isn't overrated. He's a beast. Gonzalez knows that. That's why he turned down a serious purse. He's afraid he'll get annihilated. Oh, and by the way, I like your boy Mikey Garcia. He's a good fighter and seems like a nice kid...very articulate. Unlike you, I can appreciate and root for people outside my culture/birthplace. Here's a little video to give you an idea how "overrated" Mikey's brother thinks Gamboa is:
