Trash talking has been part of boxing for as long as boxing has existed. Many ATGs were trash talkers. And good guy vs. bad guy match-ups have always been part of boxing's appeal. Haye's "scumbag" antics (as you call them) are a big part of why this is such a huge fight, and that is in Wlad's long term interests as long as he wins. Boxing is a hurt game, not a game for saints. Wlad would actually be a lot more popular if he became a little less decent and a little more ruthless in the ring, i.e. more of a fighter, like his brother.

Duran wasn't witty or clever and nor is Mayorga. And whether you like his "humour" or not (and I agree that it's childish, and so does he in some interviews he's given), it has succeeded in helping to hype the fight, and appears to have also succeeded in genuinely angering both Wlad and Steward, which were his twin aims in doing it. So in his own terms, it's worked.

I've heard from a number of British fans and they want to see Haye get KTFO! He would have more British fans if he wasn't A) Crude and insensitive and 2) Black. The fact is British fans favor their white fighters which goes without saying.
