I understand what his team's intentions are in terms of managing his career. They want him to learn more at the expense of fighting stiff competition, which in reality shouldn't be perceived as bad, as Canelo is only 20 years old, and has no amateur background. However, he "is" a world champion, and world champions are supposed to face other world champions, or at the very least high ranked opposition. That comes with the territory of being a champion. Is Canelo really one though? Only fights against top opposition will tell us that. He has a belt, and should honor it, by fighting other champions, and top contenders. Who all up in hurrrr agree?

Both Chavez and Canelo have been guided through the path of least resistance to paper titles and the farce will continue. THREE guys mentioned for Canelo's next fight and not ONE of them is rated in the top 10 at 154. Funny how that works. Chavez should be fighting Martinez next and they are looking for the next setup instead.

I don't think it's a step forward but to say it's a huge step back is a bit of a reach IMO

Gomez to me is better than Matt Hat and arguably better than Rhodes

that being said the name Gomez does not conjure up a champion making a statement

however, if they are indeed doing the split site PPV where Canelo is in Los Angeles then Gomez seems the proper opponent for Canelo

Rhodes wasn't much of a challenge inspite of the ranking and you know this or have you never really seen Rhodes before? Short of Jamie Moore he has beaten no one of note and is about as pedestrian as they come
