Comments Thread For: CompuBox Stats: Matthysse Edges Alexander in Numbers

Lucas Matthysse was busier, landed more punches in the fight and the harder punches. Devon Alexander was down in the fourth, but still managed to secure a ten round split decision victory. As Max Kellerman would ask, "who would you rather have been be in this fight?" And the answer is simple - Matthysse.

I thought who ever won round 10 would win the fight.. As you can see Alexander clearly won round 10 and won the fight...

If you go round by round- strictly based on the Compubox #s

1st: Alexander - more punches landed, while Mattyhsse landed more power shots, lets call it 10-10
            2nd: same , 10-10
3rd: Even on punches, but Alexander landed more power shots, 10-9 Alexander
            4th: 10-8 Mattyhsse
5th: Alexander landed more punches and more power punches, 10-9 Alexander
            6th: Same, 10-9 Alexander
            7th: 10-9 Mattyhsse
            8th: 10-9 Matthysse
            9th: 10-9 Alexander
10th: Alexander landed less punches but more power shots and was more accurate, let's just say 10-10

            Final score: 96-96

Rounds 4, 7,8, and 9 were very clear rounds. The rest were really close on the compubox numbers.

Landing more doesnt mean someone won a fight.

It was close. I thought i was a draw. I would've like to see Matthysse get him against the ropes more and land those big rights. It might be time for Cunningham to step aside and bring in a big time trainer for Alexander.

According to Compubox, Alexander landed 3x more power shots than jabs. Round by round, it was even on power shots. Alexander landed more power shots in 5 rounds, Lucas landed more power shots in the other 5.
