Thomas Hauser has been writing about the folly of HBO for quite a few years now. He's probably the most informed boxing writer on this topic and is worth reading.

One of the many consequences of the crazy Bradley-Alexander deal, is that this deal helped kill the Bradley-Khan fight. Despite being offered a career payday of over 1.3 million, Bradley knew that he was guaranteed just under that for his next HBO fight anyway, so why take a tough fight like Khan?

Alexander get over a million for a 10 rounder. That's 100, 000 per round. About 33. 000 dollars a minute. Did Alexander sell tickets enough to justify that? Can Bradley sell enough tickets to justify his paydays? How many viewers do they pull in?

No wonder some these boxers today act like such prima donnas.

I was for Alexander fighting Matthysse. I thought it was solid fight and I still haven't seen the fight (on Cloud Mack now) but if he got 1.2 million for 10 rounds of work, HBO made a huge mistake. Absolutely huge.

It's bull**** Hopkins Dawson is PPV while Alexander gets a free payday.

Saying that Alexander and Berto are bums is ignorant. Maybe they aren't absolute top level fighters, maybe they are overpaid, but that's HBO's fault. Fact is they are good fighters who both showed skills and no quit in these tough fights with Ortiz and Mattysse.
