I'd rather see someone go in & fight to win, take a beating, & quit on their goddamn stool !
At least, at some point, they were TRYING TO WIN, & gave us something to enjoy.
I don't want to rent PPV matches, only to have one fighter aim to not get KO'd, as opposed to looking to win.
Don't give me any crap about Roy" boxing" in there. He was straight up afraid to make any contact, & it resulted in a horendous fight.
Roy shouldn't have taken the fight if he didn't intend to win.
You thought it would be that way Jabs, anyway... Gunshy was the term if I remember.
I was thinking by the end of round 2, as I sat in a pub here in Melbourne.... "gunshy".

Yes.....but, I thought while the match was happening that Roy had a real chance at winning had he put forth the effort.
He was even more gunshy than I expected, while having more of an opportunity to win than I had expected.

Particularly having seen Tarver so gassed after putting in a surge in the 11th. You wonder what would have happened if Jones really backed himself in rounds 6 & 7.
I honestly thought Roy was a big chance half way through, but it really seems that his mindset (having never been overly aggressive anyway) is just totally shot. I was getting pretty annoyed, & nearly walked out just before the punch that staggered Roy.
Having said that, it was kinda nice to see him fight on & show a bit when hurt - he actually took more chances, probably because his mind was foggy...
I don't ever like to question the heart of someone who is doing something that I am not. If I'm sitting on my couch drinking a beer (ok, maybe wine or a wine cooler lol) then I'm not gonna question the heart. I may complain about the performance or the wasted money, whatever, but not heart.

What about when they're making several million dollars, which you helped fund ?

I couldnt mopther ****ing agree more! Dont make me pay $50 bucks when you have no real intentions of putting fourth a winning effort.
Bad bad weekend of boxing, thank god for this week!
Jones has no heart. Why? He chose not to mix-it-up with Tarver, because he knew he really couldn't take the chance of getting tagged and, as he said himself, "lookin' like a chump".
Well Roy, you had your chance to dis-prove most of your detractors by taking it to tarver and proving you are truly the man. Trouble is, you wouldn't commit to throwing anything more than one or two shots at a time, because you never knew when that Tarver left hand might end your night.
Sure Roy should get some credit for coming back in the 11th after eating a good right hook, but that is not "heart". Roy lasted simply because Tarver wasn't able to land just one more shot to Roy's chin, burnt himself out in the effort, Roy sensed that and only then did Roy get brave. There's no way in hell Roy would have chosen to mix-it-up with a fresh Tarver, because he doesn't have the heart to do it.
A fighter with "heart" doesn't fight like Roy did on Saturday. Roy tried to steal rounds by being cute, Roy tried to do just enough to win one round at a time, Roy got cheeky and danced and tongued Tarver but didnt back it up, Roy fought like he was afraid to fight the guy in front of him. That's Heart?

Like I said, I might complain that I wasted my money but I don't think it is my place to question their heart. They are getting in the ring, risking their life in some way and all I'm doing is sitting on the couch complaining that they don't have heart....doesn't make sense to me.

I agree. I saw the fight sunday and I thought at first it will be a war. But the first 4-5 rounds went by and both just stared at each other. Boring fight. Jones clearly is afraid of the KO, if not he would have brought it to Tarver. Antonio did his part but Jones just went around like a clown.
I don't blame people for not respecting ROY now. A lot of people paid good money to watch a career-defining moment and all they got was an ass-**** fight. I'm a Roy Jones fan, but honestly, I was pissed and disappointed with how Jones fought. He should retire coz he's got nothing more to give to boxing except sticking his tongue out.

This is my first trip back to the forums in quite awhile, I saw the fight on Saturday and frankly I think RJJ is a piece of ****. In my opinion he robbed the paying public of whatver it cost them to see the fight. I won't ever hold him in high regard again, the guy is a ****ing busted coward for all times in my eyes. 5 ****ing punches in a round, a club fighter would've gave more effort than he did. Then I had to listen to Tarver give himself more credit than he should by saying Roy was at his best and "fought his heart out". Roy Jones = bum in my eyes, prior to this fight I still would have told my grandkids he was a great one, no longer. ****ing chump!
