The Canadian HW champ Nenad starting boxing at 27.
Theres a 1% chance you will be good but I know a few 50 year old dudes who box "pro" just to be in shape. Sure they are like 5wins 60 loses but they dont do it for the money(none), but because Boxing keeps you in shape and is a good way of life.
Its REALLY hard to become a good pro, even if you got all the talent in the world and train 10 years straight someone can headbutt you or the judges or ref's will screw you somehow, seen it happen alot of times judges giving a 4rd draw to a bum and prospect gets no more respect.
Do it because you love it and to stay in shape, dont think you are going to be a superstart boxer.Comment

Then do the right thing and forget about a career in the sport. Pursue more realistic employment opportunities. You can still watch the fights, but recognise that it's a fantasy life for most (not just you) and a real life for very few.Comment

to the TS
keep your head up man. you sound like a good guy.
trades are a good way to make lots of money
i worked as an electrician in my early 20's
the money was good, the exercise was nice (at least some of it haha!) i learned a lot
if you need to provide for a family you can do it on the salary you'll make in most of the skilled trades if you can find the work consistently
that will likely be your only issue
if you can join a union your family will probably have health benefits and such even if you get laid off (which, if you're a union guy, you will. )
unless you end up at a small outfit where you are needed as a full timer and non union you'll be bouncing around and sometimes on the dole (unemployed for short periods)
your union will find work for you eventually
when i was in the trades i wasn't in a union. i worked for a small contractor
i got paid at the end of the week in cash, and was usually working 35-40 hour weeks. i was on a 10-99 and paid taxes at the end of the year. because of the amount i could write off (my vehicle and expenses, tools, etc,) my taxes were very low at the end of the year. my employer had insurance in the event that i did get hurt.
it worked for me because i was young and didn't need the health insurance
luckily i stayed healthy
some things to think about:
i've seen 50 year old electricians who have spent their entire adult lives in the trade and they are worn down
one guy i worked with extensively could barely walk. it would take him three or four times as long to walk any distance.
it was as fast as he could move...
his knees were destroyed from working as an electrician during the huge build in america in the 60's and early 70's (and not taking good care of himself obviously)
if you stay clean and don't drink a ****load (you'll find many of the men you work with in the trades are legit alcoholics)
eat well and stay light
get a good amount of rest
and take time off when you can and you feel you really need it
you can be healthy and prosperous in the tradesComment

Go see your child being born. You have all your life to be grindin but your baby being born only happens once in there lifetime.
You could always get judging credentials and be a judge.
Pray you make the right decision and don't look back.Comment

If i do fight pro i want you there bro,you have been a good friend to me here and always are pushing me towards postive things thanks bro.Dammit Mark, 29 is not that old really; it's not young but many guys have started boxing later and have had success. Also, I'm assuming that you have learnt the fundamentals of boxing and have a good understanding of how the sport works...
I say, go for it, man! Have at least one professional fight and see how you feel afterwards. There's still time and you just got to get in the right state of mind. Do it; just ****ing do it (no excuses)....
and thanks to mind and all of the others who are trying to help it means more then you know.Comment
