All the woeld's boxing Authorities, bestowed the title of the greatest amateur in HISTORY on Laszlo Papp, the first (of only 3 total) by over 20 years to win 3 successive Olympic Golds, who had hundreds of fights losing perhaps less than a handful (4-5) and was forcibly retired unbeaten as a middleweight pro by the Hungarian Communist government when he had a title fight lined up against Joey Giardello. He was the only Communist bloc boxer to be allowed to become a pro. Look him up, there are even a few Youtube videos, an astonishing specimen, only 5'5" and built like an oak tree, fast as lightning and a southpaw who could turn it up whenever neccessary. I met him in 1947, at the European Championships, also in London later.

No way this dude is better than Gamboa. I've already seen a couple of his fights and seen nothing special. Donaire will send this dude back to the amateurs for more olympic golds. I think Arum is trying to hype this guy up big time. I'm really surprised his name was even mentioned in the same sentence with the other veterans.

I'm Hungarian on my mom's side, so I'm well aware of Papp. I think it's a very close call. Rigondeaux stood a better chance of winning 4 gold medals than anyone. His amateur record of 243-4, given he's fighting other Cubans who are the world's best, might give Rigo's credentials more weight in my mind than Papp's. Some people in this chat dismiss Rigo for Gamboa, Gamboa only moved up in weight in Cuba to avoid the beatings Rigo was giving him. Gamboa was never captain of the Cuban team, it was Rigo.

He is far better than Gamboa. Gamboa gets away with some technical flaws because of his unbelievable hand speed. Rigo has the best set of fundamentals I've seen since I started seriously following boxing 3-4 years ago. His only problem is that sometimes (unless his opponent is garbage like in the Casey fight) he waits for counters too much. I can't think of any fight where you would see more brilliance in the ring than Rigo-Donaire. Donaire is my favorite fighter, but if he presses too much against Rigo, I'd favor Rigondeaux.

GBP did the same with Pac, I think they figured worse case scenario they would get a cut of his purse like they did with Pac. Pac is still paying GBP a cut of his fights.

"Weinstein is very familiar with the ongoing problems between Golden Boy and Top Rank. He oversaw a June 2007 settlement between the companies on a variety of lawsuits, including the one pertaining to the promotional rights of Manny Pacquiao, who was under contract to Top Rank when Golden Boy signed him. Under the settlement, Top Rank retained Pacquiao's promotional rights with Golden Boy due a percentage of the revenue from his fights. The companies are embroiled in a recent lawsuit over that revenue."

bob arum's a scumbag..... he basically called donaire's wife a meddling ***** during their contract squabble, because she spoke up for her husband, now he wants to put on a smiley face. he doesn't care about anyone but himself and those who can cater to his needs. he's a sociopath, that's what he does. hope donaire can see how de****able of a human being he is and gets as far away from that cretin as he can.

I do not believe that Gamboa is better.

Gamboa is ahead of Rigo, no question, but I seriously doubt that he is better, he certainly has not shown that yet.

Agree, Nonito's next opponent should be Bob Arum.
