MANILA, Philippines – Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao thinks Floyd Mayweather Jr. is getting ready for their possible superfight.
He said this is why Mayweather has chosen to fight a southpaw like Victor Ortiz.
"Siguro (lalaban sa akin), dahil ang kakalabanin niya southpaw rin. [Maybe he's preparing for me because he chose to fight a southpaw]," Pacquiao told ABS-CBN News' Ginger Conejero.
This was the same view earlier aired by Pacquiao's boxing trainer, Freddie Roach.
"Of course, that's the first thing I thought," Roach had said.
Boxing pundits say Mayweather has difficulties handling left-handed boxers.
"Floyd was always reticent about fighting a southpaw," boxing promoter Bob Arum earlier said.
"A southpaw like Manny Pacquiao, he doesn't want no part of, because even if he protects himself from his left, he's going to **** him with his right hand," he had explained.
The Mexican-American Ortiz, however, is no tune-up for Mayweather. He is the reigning world Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion.
"Good luck sa kanya [I wish him luck]," Pacquiao said, referring to Mayweather's September 17 fight against Ortiz.
