Six weeks before the scheduled meeting, Toney weighed 212 pounds -- 44 pounds over the 168-pound weight limit. Four days before the fight, he still had 18 pounds to go. And while he somehow reached the limit, the weak, dehydrated fighter who stepped into the ring in no way resembled the James Toney who had devastated so many opponents.

Jones, on the move for 12 rounds, ultimately outboxed the champion to win the championship and hand Toney his first defeat.

``Everyone said, `James, pull out of the fight,' '' said Toney, referring to the days leading up to the fight. ``I said, `It doesn't matter. I'll get this guy.' Everyone said, `Postpone it. We ain't in shape.'

``And as soon as the bell rang, it became a track meet. I wasn't in shape but he couldn't knock me out. If he was the best fighter in the world, as people think, he should've knocked me out.''

Toney's been blowing up fight to fight his whole career. If thats the excuse then I guess he's undefeated. Not being in shape is only Toney's fault.

Roy Jones Jnr is the single greatest fighter i ever saw live, the best of the era and a true great who its been a privilage to watch

He has had a top career, it could have been better if he'd have taken some fights he didnt but the fights we talk of him missing ie. Benn, Eubank, Collins, Michalczewski ect, are in truth formalities for a prime Roy who was just on another level.

If u dont rate Roy u dont know diick and ur opinion means less than *****.

The onces who just became Boxing fans don't remember. Jones Jr was the top P4P longer than anyone else in Boxing history. If that's not a legacy, I don't know what it is.

He would most likely win but these are still fights that he should have been fighting and that would mean a whole lot more than some of the people of the people he was fighting around that time. You could make the same sort of argument for Mayweather and his reasons for missing out on all the fighters that he has for the last couple of years.

RJJ's legacy might not be having beaten all of the greatest fighters he ever faced throughout his whole career, but prime for prime RJJ was one of the best that ever did it. Haters gonna always hate i guess.
