Benn also admitted that he would lose to Roy Jones Jr if the fight had gone more then 3 or 4 more rounds.Originally posted by JUYJUYBenn defended his world title against Iran Barkley in Las Vegas and got him out of there in a single round. Benn defeated Gerald McClellan who was the most dangerous US fighter in the world.
The REAL Lewis was Ted 'Kid' Lewis, not ****ing Lennox Lewis!
Nigel Benn is the greatest English fighter since Ted 'Kid', no question about it.
Here's what Benn said in May 1995: "Roy Jones is a *****cat, Roy don't want no fight. I'd fight him in his backgarden"Comment

Nigel Benn the greatest English fighter?? huh....Juy Juy wat u on about? Jeez...the guy cudnt even beat sugar boy malinga.Comment

No Benn said before the Malinga fight that his only hope against Jones Jr would be to throw everything at him for three or four rounds and hope for the best. That pretty much was his only hope if he fought Jones Jr after Malinga because he was ****ing Finished after the McClellan fight.Originally posted by InThisCornerBenn also admitted that he would lose to Roy Jones Jr if the fight had gone more then 3 or 4 more rounds.Comment

Well Benn had already beat Malinga in 1992, and despite being a completely shot in 1996 Benn was beating Malinga in 1996 too until the referee counted Benn's slip at the end of the 12th round as a "knockdown"Originally posted by Londonerzzthe guy cudnt even beat sugar boy malinga.
, no way was that a knockdown, Benn was getting set to hit Malinga with a counter but slipped on water in the corner.. if the referee had not called that a "knockdown" then Benn would of won the decision and fought Jones Jr.
If the referee had done his job right then the scores for Benn-Malinga II would of been 111-117 Malinga, 114-113 Benn and 117-110 Benn.
I haven't seen Malinga against Jones Jr but apparently he was giving Jones Jr hell and winning the fight..
Here's somebody elses account of the Jones-Malinga fight:
Sugarboy Malinga was clearly giving Roy problems in 93 by making Roy lead and stepping off. Jones had to resort to feints to get Malinga to lead after which he brilliantly counterpunched Malinga with an uppercut right on the button. But if it wasn`t for Roy`s power he had back in those days that got him out of jail in this fight then this fight would of gone the full 12 rounds and Malinga would of got the decision.

This is too harsh imo.Jones Jr doesn't even have a legacy, never has and never will. He's a HBO creation.
Hopkins, Toney and McCallum are HOFer's but they were nowhere near their best when they fought Jones Jr.
Jones Jr didn't push for unifications at 160, didn't push for unifications at 168, avoided the true Lineal 175 champion all along, and picked on the worst of the Heavies.
I said five years ago that Jones Jr has a long way to go if he wants to make my top 100 all-time lb4lb list, he still has a long way to go.Comment
