Not quiet a joke, seeing how Mayorga didn't look too bad in his last fight with Cotto.
Mayorga looked what he is against Cotto; Shot.

I let Baldomir and even Hatton slide considering he is young and needs experiecne.

I let Rhodes slide as his first solid title fence regardless to him being out of his leauge.

He has a title now, it's about time he stepped up.

Mayorga, isn't that. He's shot to pieces.

Let's hope that Saul Alvarez doesn't become the Mexican version of Lucian Bute.

Yeah. Mayorga didn't deserve his shot with Cotto and deserves this one even LESS!! Com'on, first it was Rhodes, then Mayorga and we can bet that Suliaman will dig out some "out of nowhere" MANDATORY challenger with even less credibility than Mayorga and Rhodes to protect Alvarez and then... and then... and then... until the time is right to put him up against a TRUE TOP CHALLENGER, but that won't happen until sometime in 2013 or so. Sad but that's what boxing has been lowered to, thanks to Arum and "anything for a price" Suliaman. Together they've made a mockery out of our great sport and given it the "WWE Circus Flavor" that it now has. It's not Canelo's fault. He a very talented Kid and can hold his own against the best a lot better than many think BUT.. he won't be allowed to take any TRUE risks any time soon. Oh well...

What's wit all this alvarez hype? Man I got this fight 50/50. Mayorga is shot but alvarez aint that good to begin with. All I've seen from him is "potential". Mayorga is still strong and throws those crazy punches. Alvarez's foot work sucks, he looked pretty good against rhodes but people are acting like this dudes a monster. He s really young and he has a long way to go.

Most definetly.im not saying its a career signature fight because there are better ones to come but at least mayorga throws punches unlike rhodes. That guy was just a bag and good to collect for one night.not to mention mayorga has some what of a punch.im not completly sold on alvarez like his fans are.hes a young man in progress.a decent but not in prime shape gives canelo headaches.but the fight must happen this year or else he'll lose all credibility with me.mayorga fought not too long ago against cotto, canelo shouldnt wait another year or two for the mayorga buzz to sober away with fans by fighting him later.

Anyone who knows boxing, knows that Alvarez is a hype job, much of which is built on the anomaly of being a Mexican that looks Irish. He was badly hurt by Jose Cotto who was a natural Lightweight. He got his title through the EASIEST possible fighter!! Notice he and Chavez have fought many white fighters in a row? That is by design.

They are going to milk that gravy train cash cow for as long as they can and **** on the fans in the meantime. It is a ***ING JOKE that Alvarez won a title without beating a real champ. Then he fights ANOTHER white euro fighter??!! Only an idiot would not see what is going on. The hype machine is too easy to see.

He true test won't come until he fights some young and hungry just like him, someone like Vanes or Austin Trout

or a tough Veteran like Cotto, Angulo, Williams

or a LIVE OLD FIGHTER like Fight Grady Brewer or Cornelius Bundrage, someone that will at least TRY and not just take a Pay Check to be Alvarez's PUNCHING BAG like Hatton and this last guy

Golden Boy Promotions might be playing it a little "TOO SAFE" with Alvarez
A voice of reason! Thank you.
After seeing what Brewer has left, that would be a contest most could get on board for.

I'm very uncomfortable with how HBO is stroking this kid's career when there are real veterans out there who have earned the paynight. You named deserving prizefighters who would and could come to win.
The problem of course is that Golden Boy knows that fact very well.

Chavez Jr. takes alot of kidding but at least he went 12 tough stanzas with John Duddy.
De La Hoya would NEVER have put Canelo in with the now retired Irishman regardless of how much medication the bitter promoter was on
