McBride also didn't beat Tyson 3 times, and Tyson was FAR more shot than, and nowhere near as naturally gifted as, RJJ.

A fighter doesn't become great overnight, yea Tarver has stepped up his level of competition in the last few years, but Roy dominated the division hands down for soooo long. I dont care if Tarver beats Jones three more times, he won't accomplish what roy has through out his career, and really the same thing could be said about 99% of all boxers. Kudos to Tarver for beating Jones, It doesn't take away from what Roy has accomplished.

Tarver vs. a prime Jones = owned.

Tarver lost a decision which was not controversial whatsoever in the first.

Caught him with a lucky shot in the second.

And, from what I've heard, beat a Jones who really wasn't into it in the third.

That does not constitute a better fighter.

Tarver is a coward too scared to leave his decision and challenge himself against real fighters! He's a *****!

I'm no Tarver fan, but after 3 fights I'm really surprised that Roy fans still don't wanna give this guy credit. They're both 36 years old, am I right? From what I saw, there is nothing physically wrong with Jones. Speed is still there, still has strength, too. But he had been roughed up 2 previous times by the same person and beat down by another. Isn't it a fact that alot of fighters change after being knocked out? Jones wasn't shot in this fight, he was scared.

He got roughed up in the first, but won because Tarver didn't keep the pressure up and got complacent.

Got knocked out in one punch in the second.

And lost (in my eyes) 10 out of 12 rounds in the third.

Thus far, Jones has had the better career. But in the ring, facing each other, Tarver has proven himself better than Roy. Didn't Roy even say that Tarver would have given trouble any other time? Tarver handled business in the ring where it matters, so there really shouldn't be any argument.

I'm not much of a Roy fan, and I dont give Tarver much credit. I give him credit for the wins over Jones, especially the KO win in the second fight. The third fight, both fighters were equally unimpressive. Jones is done, talk about not pulling the trigger. Tarver didnt do much except outwork Jones. What a ****ty main event, for an even ****tier PPV card. I should have saved my money for Corrales/Castillo.

                    hmm

Tarver beat him 2 out of the 3 times they fought and gave him all he could handle the time he lost.

Those are the FACTS. People can accept them or not, it really doesn't matter. People say Tarver is better because he proved it in the ring.
That is true. Tarver proved to be better than a old and faded version of Roy. But, at the same time, beating a faded legend 2 outta 3 does not make you better than said legend. Ya dig? Even Tarver's "son" admits and believes Roy would take Tarver in his prime. I think we all know that based on their 1st fight when Roy was his youngest.

Also, it is untrue that Roy fans don't give Tarver credit. But Tarver fans are crazy if they think this means Tarver is better than Roy all time. Tarver looked scared to death of Roy for a lot of their 3rd fight and it shows how much respect he had for even a faded version of Jones.

Tarver does deserve some credit. I also am glad Tarver finally gave Roy some respect after the trilogy. Classy move. Roy also was very classy giving Tarver a lot of credit. If Roy gives him credit then we should as well.

Tarver will never be better than Roy in the All-Time because Tarver has only fought in the one division. I wish to hell that Roy had stepped up to Cruiser or back down to at least SMW where he could have been in more competitive matches rather than staying most of his career in the talent bereft LHW division, but despite my dislike for him, I will admit he did some pretty amazing things.
