Roy's division wasn't nearly as weak as some make it out to be. He fought good comp overall in his career.

I was there live in Tampa for this fight and after 5 rounds it appeared Roy would probably win. But, he's just old now and got gassed too easy. Making judgements on a old man's career because he lost to a B+ fighter is not fair at all. Tarver deserves some measure of credit and there is no reason to knock Roy other than to say Roy is past his prime. He was afraid of Tarver but I was at the fight and Tarver was very afraid of Roy too and Roy DEFINITELY ha dhis moments. Boring fight overall but yall shoulda expected that. That's the way their styles go 9 times outta 10.

One more thing... in the eleventh he took several shots from Tarver that clearly dazed him, yet carried on firing back despite looking like being knocked out several times. He even managed to hurt Tarver. Had he knocked Tarver out that would have been the ultimate "triumph over adversity" that his whole career has lacked.

I do love Roy, but most of his bouts are good boxing exhibitions, nothing more.

Prime Roy beats Tarver 9 outta 10. A 26-28 year old Roy was just a freak of nature. So damn fast. Hell, look at how much trouble Tarver had with a 36 yr old Roy. Could hardly hit him.

PPl just like different styles. I liked roy's boxing style. It says a lot that he was not challenged in his prime. Some of his opponents were not the best, but some of them turned out to be quite good. some ppl don't like Roy because he didn't get hit and ppl want to see a guy get hit and show some toughness. roy avoided punches and some ppl just craved to see him hit so bad they started to dislike him.

Roy was VERY hurt in the 11th. When I saw him stumble like that I thought it was going to be a disaster. But damn if that old man didn't pull some nuff tumpin'. Haha. A few years ago he would have stopped Tarver while Tarver was gassed out and hurt, but now **** man Roy is just too damned old. I could see him breathing with his mouth open in the 6th round.

It's a shame, but I think the way he's gone out will always leave doubts now. Because people can always argue the "Would Roy in his prime..." question, but we'll never KNOW, will we? Shame.
