Douglas fought a great fight that night, controlled Tyson with his jab and didn't let him land anything until that uppercut. Tyson did not train properly, we all know it, but even still, what an upset and Mike's career and life nose dived from there.

Regardless of the rest of his career, Buster was more than worthy for one night. I've seen that fight a hundred times and it remains one of the best HW performances that I've ever seen. Buster had real talent. If he would have had the discipline and drive to back it up, he could have been great.Comment

douglas was crap and NEVER worthy of takin tysons "0".
however, it was going to happen sooner or later at the time because of the way mikes life was going.
the fight though, was a joke.
it was a galant effort from a geezer who got off the floor after some 12 to 14 seconds to go on and win by ko.
the ko was always the way it was going to happen.....tall rangey fighter with stiff jab and ability to put together a decent combo with a bit of power.
tysons training for this fight and others leading up to it was....lack lustre and contributed to the loss of stamina and increased fatigue.
i always view this fight as the most valuable lesson in life mike has learned as a fighter.
lastly, i dont think there is any man alive who was not scared to the bone of tyson around the time he won the unified title.
this part of tysons reign was and will never be matched by another fighter to the point of complete and utter fear of a man.
glad hes now in the hall of fame, it was long awaited and well deserved.Comment

Yeah I always said that part of me wishes that the ref would have counted Douglas out when he was knocked down. I think almost losing that fight would have scared Tyson straight and made him realize that he would have to start taking his career seriously again.Comment

What a b.s. post. You either don't know boxing, didn't see the fight or both. I'm guessing both. Buster Douglas put a masterful beat down on Mike. The excuse that Tyson was physically out of shape for that fight is b.s. He was at his normal weight and was chiseled and ready to go. He had to be in tremendous shape to take the beating that he did and last into the 10th round. The only excuse for Mike and his fans (I am one of them btw) is that Mike was just not mentally ready for Buster to come at him the way he did. Buster surprised everyone with his performance, but no one more than Mike Tyson. Also, whether or not the ref started the count late for the 8th round KD is irrelevant. A fighter only has to beat the ref's count, which Buster did. If you go back and look, the ref took exactly fourteen seconds to count BOTH knockdowns in that fight (8th and 10th round), so their was no bias or injustice whatsoever in that fight. Not sure what Micky1971 knows about the sport, but I'm fairly sure he didn't watch this fight. Buster in no way got lucky in that fight. He was super sharp on offense and defense from beginning to end in that fight; and the end, a beautiful four-punch combo KO, shouldn't really have been as shocking as it was when you consider what transpired during the previous nine rounds. It may have been for one night only, but what a time to bring your A-game. Buster Douglas was an underachiever for sure, but he was no bum.douglas was crap and NEVER worthy of takin tysons "0".
