    Tarver I, Larry Merchant 0

Finally someone stuck it to Larry Merchant. HBO got on my nerves tonight. If it's not resident excitable ****** Harold Lederman ("Okay Jim!" - the guy sounds so breathless it's as if he's humping Lampley's leg while he's talking) it's Max Lederman's lisping ****ography. Worst comment of the night was (surprisingly) from Lampley though, who suggested Kid Diamond should go back to "being somebody's sparring partner." Show some respect, Jim - the guy's just taken a ten-round beat down and stayed upright. Geez.

As for Roy/Tarver, for moments there the genius of Roy looked back (round five was classic). Though "Reluctant Roy" will go on his tombstone for a round twelve where Tarver was spent and Roy didn't take the risk. I still had it only 116-115 Tarver, though I openly admit I was on Roy's nuts for old times' sake.

Did Roy prove anything? Yeah, he proved his chin ain't THAT bad. He took some tremendous shots, looked like going down, dug deep and fired back. But there's no way he should go anywhere near Glen Johnson, who is just totally the wrong fight for him at this stage in his career. Roy's got old, tonight was just a fun encore where thank God he didn't get hurt too much. Bastard cost me £25 and 10mil in points, mind.

Generally, see my new avatar for Roy's real thoughts on the fight, the dullest of the trilogy.

I'm just glad Kid Diamond has been brought back down to earth, especially since he was talkin all that **** about beating Mayweather a few issues back in The Ring.

Kid Diamond wasn't impressive on his last HBO outing vs someone I can't remember. They had so much talk about him and all he did was throw a power right hand that as Manny would have said, he threw it Monday and it arrived on Friday...

I can't remember exact quotes, but he was shouting his head off. Larry was doing his usual derisive bull****, saying Roy was gunshy and Tarver really started yelling at him, basically telling him he didn't know what he was talking about. Probably more entertaining than the fight itself.

PDBS - I've just paid you your 10mil. Are you sure you didn't give me the Wlad-Peter bet to sucker me into taking this one?

Tarver told Merchant give credit to where credit is due( which is him) cause Merchant was telling Tarver how Roy Jones Jr. did not fight.

Okay, here we go, this is just the start of it...

Larry: "Congratulations... Antonio. Were you surprised at how little resistance Roy Jones put up?"

Antonio: "Well, believe it or not it was a lot of resistance. He was just real crafty. Like I said, I'm glad we prepared for everything. I mean, Roy was sharp tonight and er... he didn't surprise me -"

                Larry: "You can't be serious...

                Antonio: "I'm so serious"

Larry: "...saying he is sharp... he went rounds without hardly throwing punches."

Antonio: "Oh, but you know what, you're playing chess all the time, Larry. It's a chess match in there. One mistake and I'm check mate."

Larry: "Okay, so are you saying he was so concerned with your left hand and what it did to him the last time he was afraid to fire?"

Antonio: "No, he wasn't afraid, Larry, give a man credit where credit is due. The man came with his best game. and he was bested by a better fighter. PERIOD."

                Larry: "Okay..."

                Antonio: "That's it!"

                Larry: "Why can't you say..."

Antonio: "He fought his ass off, so did I!"

Larry: "Why can't you say he was intimidated?"

Antonio: "Cos I can't see it like YOU! I didn't feel he was intimidated. If I'dve made a mistake he would have punished me. I fought a crafty fight against one of the best fighters in the world. I AM one of the best fighters in the world. Give me my credit! GIVE ME MY CREDIT!"

Just think... Larry and Roy will have to work together again after this.

Merchant is getting a bit cranky in his old age.

He was basically correct though. This was a worn out Tarver edging out a scared RJJ in a bore of a fight. After that performance, Tarver needs to praise RJJ as much as possible or else the win is just what it was - one old guy outjabbing another who didn't try.
