  • I hope Canelo loses the title to Rhodes.

    .. and I'm a Canelo fan.

Golden Boy needs to back the **** off. Alvarez should have been allowed to work his way back to 147 and grow for at least another year before looking for a title. The kid has no place at 154, and if he's thrown in there with someone like Angulo, Wolak, or even Williams he'd been in deep trouble.

Remember, a year ago he got rocked by light-welterweight journeyman Jose Miguel Cotto. Compare that to what feather-fisted Malignaggi did to Jose Cotto with damaged hands a few weeks ago.

I am a fan of the kid, but the Vargas comparisons aren't unwarranted. I hope he loses this bull**** title and steps out of the limelight for a while to work on his game. Golden Boy is full of shit for moving him along like this, regardless of what they say. They're desperate for new Mexican stars, and they don't give a shit if they bleed this kid dry before he even hits his prime.

alvarez couldn't even meet at the catchweight for the bogus belt he has now, no way in hell he makes the ww limit. he's stuck at junior middleweight, he just needs to fight as much as he can against decent/good opposition before facing the bigger names. bundrage, wolak, konency, and spinks are all good opposition for him to face before trying to fight guys like cotto or angulo, even vanes imo. alvarez just needs experience against fair opposition, as much as possible. gbp/wbc are doing a decent job at it now imo

I respect what paul is saying, I don't want Canelo ending up like Chavez Jr., known for fighting nobodies. This is Canelo's toughest fight.

He's ready, I don't want another JCCjr fighting 40 cab drivers and cans in a row to be protected, Rhodes is top 5 in his division, and isn't too special, but is good enough to make it a scrap, and it's a good name on his resume at this point, next I wanna see him in there with Vanes or Wolak.

I think Canelo is special, he's got the fan base and the talent, Rhodes is no Tito, or DLH, he'll be ok, after this I'm sure he'll fight some unranked journeyman for a tune-up and get a Vanes match up early 2012

Props to Canelo for stepping up in comp its sink or swim here in regards to whether he is ready for this level and to hold a world title. If he loses then your right Paul he needs to go back work on some things and step up again when he is really ready. A loss wouldn't be so bad, this is just a 20 year old kid he has time.
