Some people need to listen to themselves. They say Canelo is an over rated fighter, making his name beating hand picked cab drivers and so and so's (some cab drivers are tough though). Yet and still, when thier boy gets hand picked, they want us to bet the house on him. I wish Rhodes well and I'll still respect him if he wins, I just wish somebody would tell me how he's going to do it? His experience? For me, it's a matter of skills and styles. I think Alvarez is a solid fighter but he's aggressive and takes risks and makes mistakes, and Rhodes is a southpaw counter-puncher with the ability to walk people onto shots. He's also proven that he can fight going forwards or backwards, on the outside or the inside. He had more strings to his bow than Alvarez and is better at using what he does have as well. Some people need to listen to themselves. If I had to pick a good style match-up for Rhodes it would be an aggressive fighter, especially as that who is who is best win is against (Moore). If I had to pick a bad style matchup for Alvarez is would be a slick southpaw with power and a size advantage as he has never faced anyone remotely like that.
But experience cannot be dismissed as easily as you make out. Rhodes knows what it's like to go to war with a powerful, aggressive fighter who will still continue when he's running on empty. Does Alvarez? It's clear that he doesn't. When you have these experiences it prepares you for future battles mentally and you also learn from it skillwise because you know what works for you and what doesn't and also what works against you and what doesn't.
He knows that he can be beaten. He knows he can be stopped. This is not a bad thing as long you have maintain a positive attitutde, because all fighters are mortal. He understands that he can be hurt and will plan for it, how to use footwork to avoid his man and then clinching to tie him up. I don't think Alvarez will, just as many aggressive, undefeated fighters didn't. He'll panic and run into a big shot or run backwards which is not his game and will see him taken out.
Rhodes is battle-tested, and not in Cuauhtémoc1502 way, in a real way. Alvarez is not.Comment
