Reach disadvantage + inability to take facial punishment = bad night for Cotto.

Thats like saying Golovkin wouldn't beat Pavlik because of their resume, like Dirk said its irrelevant, If you look at last 5 fights there resumes aren't even in the same league.

Mayorga- Club fighter and past it
Margarito- Shot to bits, old and has one good win on his resume.
Yuri Foreman - Lucky to ever be world champion and can't punch.

Pac and May good match ups, ones he lost though.

Martinez faced Williams most feared and avoided fighter in the world at the time, twice, robbed once, changed gthe course of Williams career in the other.

Pavlik was for the middlewight championship so any arguement there is irrelevant.

      Dzinzurik was unbeaten,

Barker unbeaten and Macklin was more game and in prime than Margo and Mayorga put together.

Then Saturday night beats the guy who was handed his belt with a silver spoon up his ass.

Cottos 154 resume against Martinez 160. Martinez wins and its not even close. Cottos resume at Welter and below is beastly though.

like i said earlier, you might all be right, but i dont think martinez vs cotto at 154 is a dead certainty for martinez to win.

          Its not a dead certainty

First, Cotto is a technically more sound boxer. He can connect with that jab as Sergio moves back with his hands low.

Sergio's stamina is nearly as suspect as Cotto's. I think that is a wash

Cotto can cut off the ring just as good as anyone in boxing, which is what he'll have to do

At 154, its a damn close battle. At 160, I think Martinez takes it.

Cotto is too slow for Martinez. Martinez's style and awkwardness confuses cotto and cotto gets destroyed. When is the last time Cotto beat a real good SPEED fighter?

I agree with this. This thread is getting the usual unrealistic replies, sometimes mixed with a dislike for Cotto, that add little or nothing to a valid debate. Whenever I start reading a reply and find a "Cotto's body would lay on the floor while having wild seizures if Martinez connects a straight left" type of line I just disregard that as trolling and skip to the next logical post.

I think this fight favors Martínez, mainly because of size and awkward style but Cotto is a better boxer in a classic sense and has great timing with his jab. Sergio fights with his hands down to his waist so that gives Cotto good chances for scoring points. Unlike some here, I think Cotto has the technical skill to hang in there with Sergio. Actually, I think Cotto matches better against Sergio than he does against Pacquiao. I see this as a highly technical match instead of a firefight.

"Sergio's stamina is suspect", last night debunked that myth.

Sergio is a fast southpaw with an 8 inch reach advantage, who has a tendency of cutting/bruising his opponents. He also likes to turn up the heat in the later rounds.

Simply put, I really don't think Cotto would win.

Sergio called out Cotto but Cotto refused. Go figure

Whether Martinez can or cannot beat Cotto is irrelevant. Martinez's statement is just plain ****** (and I respect Sergio)...Just call Cotto out but dont say he has no balls...its almost an oxymoron.
