Comments Thread For: Team Gamboa Respond To WBA's Stripping of Super Title

Tony Gonzalez, legal adviser to undefeated featherweight Yuriorkis Gamboa, gave his take on the WBA's recent decision to strip his boxer of the "super title" at featherweight. In a statement from the WBA, the sanctioing organization said Gamboa violated their rules by refusing to defend his IBF title in a recent fight with Jorge Solis. The IBF stripped Gamboa for the violation in March.

These fighters should just make their own belts. They'd be just as important as what we see the belts as now anyway.

UFC is really just a sanctioning body within the sport of MMA anyway.

that's false, the UFC has interim champs too.
and like the other dude said, they are a sanctioning body, like Strikeforce, Bellator and many others. actually, zuffa bought Strikeforce, so they have multiple champions.

gotta love that the UFC is adding the flyweight division, and their fans are calling for a super heavyweight division. talk about folloowing boxing's footsteps.

None of this makes any sense to begin with, and at this point most boxing fans don't really use who holds belts to determine the best fighter in a division. Rightful champions are stripped so often it just doesn't matter.

How many freakin titles does the WBA has? It is just annoying in all the titles out there. Too many champions. Gamboa is the man to beat anyway but him not being such a big draw helped the WBA with their decision.

I bet if he was a hot ticket seller they would modify the rules like the WBC does to justify the fights alongside the high sanctioning fees

Following in Boxing's footsteps? they can add the 2 weight classes and have 9 - still half as manhy as the 17 boxing has. Also, UFC uses interim champs - when deserved. UFC uses interim champs when a boxer will be out close to a year, otherwise, they don't. Whereas boxing often has interim champs for no reason whatsoever - when champs are completely active - I could name a million examples. Interim champs have a place - if used correctly, which UFC does
UFC is actually a promoter who sacntions championship fights. And, you cant really compare Strike force or bellator, as everyone knows the best fighters, for the most fight are all UFC champs.
I love both sports, but boxing could learn alot from UFC, such as stacking the PPV cards with 4 or 5 real good fights; having the champ always defend against the desrvin fighter, and a good amount of weight classes

The translation sucks... the real article is in spanish and the most important point (which is not clearly stated in this translation) it that Tony said that they're trying to get John for Gamboa's next fight.
