They don’t make them like they used to? Don’t tell WBC Super Middleweight titlist Carl Froch (28-1, 20 KO) that. Don’t tell it to anyone who has been paying attention to the run Froch is on either, especially after the rugged win he posted over the ever-game Glen Johnson on Saturday.

I’m really enjoying the “credit where credit’s due” approach to Froch the serious boxing writers (outside of UK) are taking nowadays.

    It’s about time guys.

You can't argue with Froch's resume, the man has fought the best opponents available.

After Froch beats Ward he should be unified WBA/WBC champion and probably Lineal Champion. After he rematches Kessler (WBC Emeritus champ) and wins I think he should be considered a future Hall of Famer.

He'd have won the super-6, unified WBC and WBA, created a new lineage at SMW, gone 7-1 in world title fights since 2008, and avenged his only defeat. Whilst fighting only world class opposition along the way.

By the time his career is done, he'll be a 2-weight champion and hall of famer.

          WAR FROCH!

I'm glad you're giving Froch the credit he deserves, but I don't understand how you can rank him #1 in the division, above Ward. It's true that he has a slightly better overall resume than Ward, but (a) who the two fighters have faced during the Super 6 was down to the way Showtime set it up, not down to the fighters themselves - it's not as if Ward has been cherry picking his opponents; and (b) Ward completely dominated Kessler and has dominated every Super 6 opponent he has faced, whereas Froch lost to Kessler and was lucky to get the nod in a very close fight against Dirrell. Plus Froch was way behind on the scorecards when he managed to pull victory from the jaws of defeat at the last moment against Taylor, and while he deserves credit for winning, I very much doubt Ward would have been outboxed by Taylor for most of the fight as Froch was. In short, Ward dominates all his opponents, Froch rarely does.

As you state in your article, Ward will be the favourite to beat Froch, and I suspect he'll be the strong favourite. I just can't see how Ward can be rated lower than #1 in the division at this point.

He's a warrior all right, and his skills are widely under-rated, but as for greatness, will you still see it that way if he loses a wide decision to Ward, as I suspect he will?

                Dave:

I have no problem with anyone who has Ward #1. If he wins the Final, I'm not surprised at all. Might even pick him. However, I'll answer you with this:

Froch's comp isn't slightly better. It's been, in the last six fights, better period. While Ward was in with Miranda and Pudwill, Froch was doing Pascal and Taylor. It's the best in the sport arguably over the last couple years, something no one would claim for Ward. Ward hasn't fought bad fighters but Froch DID beat Abraham worse and do you think he struggles with Green or Bika? Sure, Froch had some close fights...that happens when you go six hard straight. That the tournament structure his opp wise doesn't discount that he foguht superior opp and went 5-1.

As to Taylor, he was never dominated by anyone, including Hopkins, and while Froch was behind I thought the scoring of that fight was wrong (had Froch down a point going into the 12th) and, hey, he won by KO. You say that wouldn't have happened to Ward at all. I say you THINK that about Ward. We KNOW more about Froch because of the opp and that's where I sit on the rating after the awesome Johnson win.

Not that it matters that much...soon, we get a FIGHT and this will sort itself out. Fro now, I think Froch earned the reward of the top spot. Hell, impressed with both either way. Haven't updated the P4P lists since before the 6 semis but both will be in the next one.

                War Super Six.

Why do you think Ward beat Kessler so easily - just an off-night for Kessler or styles making fights? Either way, the fact that it was such a dominant win against someone who went on to beat Froch counts for much more than the pre-Super Six fights, in my book.

Yes, I really can't understand why so many people have rubbished it and said that it's structure (going over more than a year) was wrong. It's the best thing to have happened to boxing for very many years, IMO, and no other structure could have led to so many great match-ups, or could have allowed good fighters like Froch to prove their worth despite a loss. The same structure should be repeated at other weights, but sadly I get the impression it won't be.
