    Nope.

Ortiz is a welter, and has been for years.

Roach told him to move up years ago, Vic was killing himself to make 140.

He is a beast at 147, Maidana and Peterson would likely both get KTFO now.

And dude, Ortiz was touted as the next De la Hoya years ago when he was a kid, he has ALWAYS been a terrific fighter.

Times change, situations change, he is CLEARLY no longer the green kid who showed up to fight Maidana. The writer is correct when he stated that Ortiz had pushed past his old demons and completed his rehabilitation.

But you are correct in that this will be a test for Mayweather, Ortiz is young, fast, skilled, prime, hungry, and - most importantly - he is right on top of his game.

You say that this fight will be a " good " tune-up, but when did Pac last fight somebody like that ?

Smarten up, both of those guys are ON RECORD refusing Mayweather TWICE !!

And Mayweather would not have attempted to weight-drain Cotto

With pac all ready signed this is the next best option. Save me martinez fans, ur boy is a middle weight and only idiots ever believed he was a real option for either pac or may. Props to floyd, hopefully he follows up this win with anoher great decision and not another vacation.
It was not, where do you dream up this stuff ?

Mosley was ranked the #1 welter back when Mayweather fought him.

Back then Shane was the number #1 welter. Mosley had just KTFO Margarito and he could not land a Pac fight because Manny ducked him twice. Read the article again.

it's been obvious for a long time and it wasn't only guys like Roach pointing it out, plenty of fans on this forum have been saying it. You only need to look at his performance. Berto arguably hits harder than Maidana, yet he took plenty of bombs and kept coming. His stamina was better and his punch output increased SIGNIFICANTLY.

He's been fighting at 143, 144, 142 etc etc in many of his recent fights.....it's no coincidence that this was happening. He is a WW.

How the *** can anyone bring this silly argument (and it walways has been one) that Floyd is fighting a smaller fighter. For the love of god the man rehydrated to 161 pounds one day after weighing 147. Floyd doesn't even weigh more than 160 when he isn't fighting at all.

Ridiculous argument......but i guess when you're in damage control you will latch onto anything.

i agree with 95% of this post. May nor Pac has anything to prove by fighting Martinez. Seems like this could be a precursor to a MP fight, but he has to actually WIN first, and it's not a foregone conclusion.

lets not get carried away with this fight chickenweather needs some money and always take the path of least resistance. the only fights that matter for floyd are sergio martinez who has been calling floyd duckweather out for the last 11/2 and pacquiao who he has dodged for three years. Im hoping to god that ortiz gets lucky and beats floyd the coward but that is highly unlikely. And anybody says that they are applauding floyd for taking this fight are ******. it's floyd taking the path of least resistance for the biggest money nothing more. And anyone that says ortiz is more proved than cotto margarito and clottey at welterweight need there head examined asap. Lets go Ortiz and i will Not be ordering this fight but it looks like coward the duck floyd is looking to capitalize on a mexican fighter and mexican holiday how sad. coward the duck may is simply sad for boxing and only fights for the money,

i have to give props to fmj for doing this fight. ortiz is an emerging star of us boxing and he needs a fight like this. he will most likely lose, but he is a live hungry target. and the best should be fighting such boxers, not some old washed up guys coming for a paycheck, refusing to engage. pac is a great boxer but his opponent choices have been pretty horrible lately. hope he will take a note from fmj and take on tim bradley or another boxer at his peak.

mosley was already done when floyd the coward fought him he had not fought for a year and a half and look bad against mora after he lost to floyd. the only reason floyd fought shane and now ortiz is because they are the biggest names for the most amount of money, its clear that he dodged pacquiao and accused him of being on steroids and power pellets (ha ha ha). but whats his excuse for not fighting sergio martinez every time there is a sergio martinez interview he's always calling out the duck but floyd never responses to a real challenge. martinez pac and defensive floyd are the top three pound for pounders and its sad that floyd has not stepped up to the challenge of martinez and is only fighting for the money. ortiz is strong but he is green and has only had one fight at welterweight. floyd tries to out slick his naive fans by saying oh "im back ive been out to long this is for my fans" crap. but fight fans that dont like floyd (90%) can see thru all his bs. the path of least resistance for the most amount of money thats all floyd is doing who is ortiz he's a nobody but if he could pull off the upset this would probably be the biggest upset in the history of boxing. see the reason fight fans want to see martinez and pac fight the duck is because they are proved the top two fighters in the sport and have great offense. but coward the duck does not want nothing to do with that so he tries to bit off the mexicans and golden boy promotions to build him up bigger than he really is. And anyone that tries to down pacs opposition that is a totally different agrument pac is easy to hit so every fighter that fights him has a fighters chance but with floyd the cowardly duck he picks on old wash up jr ww's lightweight's punching bags (hatton) and green pea's.

                      Mayweather

Mayweather might be showing us more than Manny is but Mayweather is his own promoter and manager. He himself decides. While Manny depends on Arum, Roach, Koncz and who else while he does his sidelines. Secondly, I think the Mayweathers have put a lot of thought in this and concluded that he can make as much money in this fight than against Pacquiao, and would rather lose to Ortiz than to Pacquiao. If Pacquiao was his own man (promoter), I have no doubt he would also choose the most challenging opponent for himself. He does love to fight. One just has to look at his early years to know that he comes to do war. Team Pacquiao is now in cruising speed and would rather put more emphasis on the dollar sign, because they feel he has already proven himself even without Mayweather.
