    Who ?

And if you say Margarito, this conversation is over.

Make me a list explaining how you think Mayweather should have stepped up.

Here is my list for Pac.....

" stepping up " would be fighting the best at lightweight instead of Diaz.

" stepping up " would be fighting the best at JWW instead of Hatton.

" stepping up " would be fighting the #1 welter Mosley, not the faded, shop-worn, clearly-vulnerable Cotto.

" stepping up " would be fighting Cotto at 147.

" stepping up " would be submitting to harmless random blood tests.

" stepping up " would be fighting the #1 welter Mosley, not the strangely innocuous bum Clottey.

" stepping up " would be fighting a JMW champion to win your 8th divisional title.

" stepping up " would be fighting any genuine JMW to win your 8th divisional title, not that welterweight bum Margarito.

" stepping up " would be not fighting faded champions who can clearly no longer pull the trigger, as-was the case with Mosley. It is a joke that the whole world could see that Mosley was shot, and yet Manny honestly thought that Shane was still a threat

" stepping up " would be fighting Victor Ortiz, instead of the 40yo midget Marquez.

Pac has had plenty of chances to " step up ", and he chose not to.

Agree with just about all of this except for...

stepping up would be fighting the best at JWW instead of Hatton
Hatton was the #1 guy @ JWW at the time and the most logical target from a business standpoint.

    But carry on...

Mayweather's tuneups (Marquez) are Pacquaio's wars or the fights Pacquaio is afraid to take (Mosley in 2009 and Ortiz in September 2011).

Floyd has 14 pro fights above 130, 27 fights at 130. Meaning the bulk of his career was at 130.

Ortiz has 33 fights at 140-147.

No excuses being made, just using your own logic. I personally believe Floyd is more of an experienced WW than Ortiz, but Ortiz is the bigger WW.
dont degrade floyd makes it a little bit out of reason..

in the time ROY is at his PRIME.

do you think roy jones fighting Ruiz at heavier weight makes jones a lesser

fighter??? thats why fighter are rated at LB4LB not in weights/sizes/height but

with SKILLS and their own uniqueness attributes in fighting...

floyd is an ATG... skill to skill ortiz is nothing... he lost to maidana a slugger

with no skills... anyway it is a good fight for floyd i hope this after this a floyd

        and manny can make it.

        • If you know with absolute certainty that the people you are arguing with are so biased as to never change their opinions, just smile, nod, and move along.

Finally I would reiterate a statement I made years ago, which is to say that no true fan of the sport of boxing would make childish, ignorant statements about any world class fighter because they understand and respect the fact beyond everything else, it takes a man to step into the ring and fight.

He may have been technically hanging on to his #1 spot, but he had faded and was clearly slipping at that point. It is highly doubtful that Hatton was the best JWW.

The point is, it is no coincidence that the slow, plodding, come-forward, face-first, Hatton..... has a similar style to most of Pac's recent opponents.

How is this for accurate then.....

At JWW, Pac fought an opponent who had NONE of the following characteristics..... young, fast, skilled, hungry, prime, and right on top of his game.

I think you can see my point

The last skilled, thinking, fighter that Pac fought was Marquez, and we all saw what happened there.

What was inaccurate about the list below ?

                    • Good article but while Floyd was taking a "break" Manny destroyed Margarito and almost made Mosley quit. It would be something if after 1yr 1/2 layoff he would come back to fight a lesser fighter. Let's face it Ortiz is not the greatest fighter out there. Yes he got a belt but we know he is very beatable. Reminds me of when Jones challenged the weakest HW (Ruiz) for a belt and claimed the HW championship just to put the HW championship on his Resume. Let's hope Marquez does not "Juanma" Pacman and destroy one of the biggest boxing events ever.
