I think you (like a lot of others) need to see that fight again.

Byrd took the fight on a week's notice and flew to Germany.

Vitali did dominate the scoring for the 1st two thirds of the fight, but Byrd was wlaking through everything Vitali threw, and consistantly made him miss.

Evander Holyfield suffered the same injury vs Byrd that Vitali did, only Evander suffered it in the 1st round and fought through the pain in a fight he had to know he was losing.

Vitali was well ahead on points, and showed no visable signs of not being able to use one of his arms.

Byrd was working his body very well and it was clear after the 8th round that Byrd's persistance was troubelling Vitali.

Byrd was pressing in the 9th and Vitali felt it was not worth the pain to continue, so he quit on his stool despite the fact all he needed to do was coast for 3 more rounds with one good arm agasitn a feather hitting opponent. He didn't even need to throw another punch.

Insead, he choose to quit on his stool.

It was the very definition of TKO loss.

              He LOST that fight.

Chris Byrd deserves some credit for showing chin and heart and persisting to press forward in a fight he was losing on the cards that he took on Vitali's home turf on a week's notice.

Holyfield had surgery as well for the same injury he suffered agaisnt Byrd, only he finished the fight in a losing effort.

All Vitali needed to do was coast, he didn't even need to throw that arm again, and it was only for 3 rounds against a guy that wouldn't have been able to hurt him.

The bottom line is it was a LOSS.

It's not a "He was dominating Byrd but..."

why would you go so far, to defend a guy who's a quitter?

when your kids drop out of school, maybe you'll appreciate people who DON'T QUIT vs. defending their pathetic actions
