Best he can do is knock off the rest of the ranked names at 160, even if they aren't stars, other than Chavez.
He needs to go after the Champs and the champs only.

If he cant get the WBC Champ then go after Sturm (WBA), Slyvester (IBF) or Pirog the WBO Champ.

This is the only way things can work for Martinez. Since he's of an ethnicity that doesn't have a base in America and doesn't speak English, he is not going to be a PPV star and guarantee his opponents millions of dollars to fight him.

Promoters will angle their ticket sellers/hypejobs/prettyboys away from him if they can, but if a guy grabs up all the titles then they are forced to fight him. That's why stripping Martinez of his titles the way they have is such an outrage. Those belts are the ONLY way these cowards are going to step in the ring with him.

Williams is going to have the same problem if he beats Lara. The champs at 154 aren't going to want to go anywhere near him, and he has no belts and thus no leverage. Think of how long HBO had been pushing Williams, and even with the network behind him he still couldn't get the fights he deserved because his opponents promoters knew he would win.

arum has a point though... sergio is the #2 p4p, but has absolutely no fan following... WE, as boxing fans, respect sergio... but real talk is sergio CANT headline a show by himself.

he DID lose all the steam after the p-will KO... they dropped the ball on that...

and we all know how bob feels about "doing other promotors work". LOL

It's a matter of convenience. Whoever he can get, he should fight. He doesn't need to go after anybody since he's rightfully the undisputed champion. Sturm could be a tough fight for him but it would be godawful to watch. I'd like to see him face Pirog.

Sergio and his promoter needs to look no further than Paul Williams to see what happens when you don't build yourself as a ticket seller. Your stuck fighting the guys no one else wants to fight.

This is entertainment, if no one wants to watch you, it doesn't matter what you did or can do.

Sturm makes a fortune where he fights. Because he was actuallly built to sell tickets. He doesn't need Martinez for anything.

The only fighter he "built" was andre Berto and most of that was haymons work. Fans can't expect promoters who put time and money into fighters to just throw that away. You know how much money promoters lose?

How much you think arum lost on vilero, or fools like Omar Henry who never pan out? These promoters lose more money on fighters and events than you guys can imagine. This **** cost a lot of money.
Yeah I agree as well, this goes beyond Bob Arum...

I think other promoters want to piggy back off of what Arum has BUILD and he is not going to let it happen...AND I DON'T BLAME HIM! It sucks from a fans stand point...but from a business stand point what Arum is doing is...GENIUS!

To make it seem as Martinez is levels above Pirog in promotion is ludicrous.

It's not hard to call a spade a spade.
he is levels above pirog in promotion. pirog doesn't even fight on HBO or showtime on a regular basis. stop it, ur trying to compare two situations that aren't even remotely the same. Martinez is a p4p fighter with a name, even if its small. pirog? he doesn't deserve a name because he hasn't done anything. ur trying to make a point that doesn't exist. ur making iit seem as if Martinez is some no name prospect, that's exactly wat pirog is tho. and I'm not even saying Martinez shldnt fight pirog but Chavez fighting and beating marttinez does a whooooole lot more for Chavez than Martinez beating pirog. and that is no hypocrisy.
