Both guys have some serious asterisks by their future HOF position. Obviously for Calzaghe it's the quality of opposition he fought. Shane has the problem of the drug use, his first win over Oscar was a big one for me, but I think he lost the 2nd fight. This is a tough call, both guys won't be ranked as highly as they could have been.
Mosley of-course.Mosley took more risk then a military vet.Calducky used fake injuries to get out of challenging fights then never rescheduled. But white,Asian, hispanic and house Negro Journalist never criticized him on his years of weak opposition but was critical of Roy Jones,Floyd and Andre Berto`s Quality of opposition.
It took alot of pressure from people to get him to fight Lacy and Hops.and would not give Hops a rematch in a close semi-controversial match.Hops lost cause ****m was suffering from a stroke so he had to use another conditioner (Mackie Shillstone) or whatever and he bought Hopkins in poor condition.
He probably purposely sabotaged Hopkins cause Hops made those delicious comments about how a white fighter would never beat him.
In Hops Very next fight against Pavlik ****m got better and trained Hops and ya`ll seen the difference in conditioning and speed. That`s part of the reason Calducky did`nt give him a rematch.
I'd like to say Mosley....he's had the better competition, and I think he is the better fighter but he hasn't had the wins on the record. Like Mayweather, I thought he could have done so much more against him...I know, easier said than done...but just, he had the game plan, he just didn't execute it.... Then the Balco thing is a massive doubt. One of his biggest wins was while he was on PEDs, I can't believe it's still a W and not a L or N/C, wtf like?? That taints his career for me. Just like Margarito's career is tainted by his hand wraps, Mosley's should be by his use of PED's.
As for Calzaghe...not the most skilled boxer, but he kept on winning, his opposition wasn't always great, but I do believe he would have excelled if it were. Then the thing is, people will remember Calzaghe for being one of the greatest Super Middleweights ever...since no one really dominated the division...for that he'll probably be remembered more. He is the most memorable Super Middleweight, now there are plenty, before it was just him and he was King.
