If Glen Johnson pulls off the upset and beats WBC champion Carl Froch is it more or less impressive than Bernard Hopkins beating Jean Pascal?
At 42, Johnson is 4 years younger than Hopkins. But, Johnson is coming down in weight for the super six in what will only be his second fight at 168 in 10 years!
A few parallels..
both Hopkins and Johnson have "lost" 3 of their last 10 fights by debatable decisions..
Johnson's last Title win was in 2006 when he won the vacant IBA light heavyweight title against Richard Hall.
Hopkins last Title win (before he beat Pascal) was in 2006 when he won IBO light heavyweight title against Antonio Tarver.
great question, and being a diehard hopkins fan and a loyal road warrior fan, i have to say that they're both equally impressive....... hopkins does have that legendary status and the history milestone, which will always have an edge over johnson..
froch i think is just as tough as pascal, if not tougher, because he's smarter than pascal as a fighter and is in better fighting condition than pascal......
the strength and speed factor coupled with the age and the lackluster fights of hopkins prior to pascal, leads to a bigger disparity and surprise.
to be honest and fair to both fighters, this is splitting hairs, and if johnson does beat froch, WE NEED A HOPKINS JOHNSON REMATCH!!!!!
i really can't say either way, but if johnson beats froch, that is EXTREMELY IMPRESSIVE JUST AS HOPKINS BEATING PASCAL....
what i think helps hopkins in having an edge is that he had to do it twice, he had to beat pascal twice to get the title again, which is double the effort, no fault of hopkins, he was jobbed in the first fight....
but, man, i really like these type questions because they really make me think and analyze things and have a real honest assessment........
IF johnson beats froch! it would be to me, sitting right next to hopkins achievement, equal, there is just the historical facts and milestones of hopkins that slightly gets more accolades, but that is just technical because both efforts by both men are EXTREMELY EXTRAORDINARY AND SHOULD BE HIGHLY RESPECTED!!!!!
even if johnson loses, he deserves the highest of respect for doing what he's doing at his age and at what level he's doing it at...........
i'm really puling for johnson, he's been a favorite of mine for ever, in the even that froch does win, i'd like to see froch win the whole tournament.......
I think it would be a much bigger upset, since Glen is just considered a final stepping stone for the truly elite fighters at this point in his career. I dont think it would be a bigger achievement than Hopkins though, cause the decline at that point in life is abrupt.
Of course it's more impressive resume wise but not the same.
Johnson is only 42, not 46. So their is a big difference, Hopkins made history so thats more impressive. However it's not as impressive as if he were to beat Froch.

LMAO at whoever said Froch P4P top 5. GTFO.
Johnson also isn't as good a fighter as Hopkins, fights a style that is hard to do effectively at such an age, at a weight he hasn't been at for a decade, and Froch is sure as hell better than Pascal.

the age disparity plays a role too but they are both past 40..
the history-making feat is unmatchable by Johnson like i said before i'm kinda sidestepping that otherwise, lets face it, the question becomes redundant
