We don't know if they were contracted weights or natural, but they are examples of top fighters exceeding the present day norms, and was not uncommon with top fighters then. One of the reasons why the records of today's fighters are not nearly as impressive as those of yesteryear.

also...ray leaonard was getting his @ss handed to him by lalonde for the first half of the fight, and this was lalond dropping down a weight division without being able to rehydrate, what makes anyone think he was healthy as ****?.....lol

well his 5th weight just like mannys 8th weight is bull****..floyds a legit 5 weight champ tho................look at leonards last couple fights he fought at 160 for super middle titles..smw was a new division then so anything went man people should learn history before talking..no real boxing fan recongnizes that bull**** just like they wont recongnize mannys 8th bull**** title...hes a respected 7 division champ cool

Roberto Duran will be Sugar Ray Leonard's next opponent.

''It's Duran, absolutely,'' Bob Arum said yesterday. Arum promoted Leonard's last bout, the draw with Thomas Hearns in June, and will be promoting the third Leonard-Duran fight.

Duran, 38 years old, and Leonard, 33, last met Nov. 25, 1980, when Leonard regained the World Boxing Council welterweight title Duran had taken from him earlier that year.

Duran, Arum said, has been guaranteed a purse of $7.6 million and will also receive a percentage of the proceeds. ''Leonard,'' Arum said, ''will be completely on percentages.''

The date and site of the bout were still being negotiated yesterday.

Leonard is the W.B.C. super-middleweight champion; Duran is the W.B.C. middleweight titleholder. Both titles will be at stake, but the match will be fought at the 160-pound middleweight limit.

OF COURSE Arum is not the only promoter Leonard work with but bottom line is that they worked together enough times, so I really wasn't that far off although i will gladly admit that I wasn't 100% Correct or maybe I didn't word what I meant correctly

I am not 100% Sure but I am almost positive that Arum was part of Promoting or "CO-PROMOTING"...what ever....the Ray Leonard vs Donny Lalonde fight as well because I remember it was some type of issues with Bob Arum and a Former Trainer of Donny Lalonde or something like that

but bottom line no matter if it was "Co-Promoting" or what not...THEY DID WORK TOGETHER A FEW TIMES and that was MY POINT! in this post as well as the OTHER POST...OF COURSE ARUM DIDN'T MAKE RAY LEONARD, Leonard pretty much MADE HIMSELF BY WINNING A GOLD MEDAL!
