Sugar Ray Leonard won the Light Heavy title at 167lbs catch weight?

I'm not much of a boxing historian.

Am I correct in my assumption that Sugar Ray Leonard won Lelonde's WBC Light Heavyweight title at a catchweight of 167 lbs.? And am I also correct in assuming that Ray also won the WBC Super Middle weight title as a bonus?

To those of you who were around at the time, did the critics and public criticize Sugar Ray for winning two titles that were non-legitimate - the light heavy title having been catchweight and the Super Middle title invented just for that fight?

Leonard is always referred to as a 5 division champ even to this day. Is this fair?

Yes he was critisized. The WBC invented the 168 lb title for Leonard to become the first 5 weight champion. At the same time he forced Lalonde, who was a big LHW down in weight which gave him great problems and Lalonde was also the weakest of the LHW champs (the WBA champ was Virgil Hill).

As it was Leonard wasnt the first 5 weight champion anyway, as Tommy Hearns captured the SMW belt a couple of weeks earlier from the newly created WBO which was an organization at the time regarded as credible as the WBF s today.

Yeah and guess who was Leonard's Promoter...uh...BOB ARUM!

So Bob Arum been manipulating Boxing Fans For DECADES! lol this is nothing new, that is why I laugh when I see ****** fans quoting him and really believing everything he says and really thinking that he is being honest

"yesterday I was lying today I'm telling the truth" -Bob Arum

So just because Leonard used Catch Weights still don't make it right...then again it really didn't matter what weight they fought at, Leonard would have destroyed him regardless

im not much in favor of catchweights but if it's the only thing that can make great fights that fans want between fighters of different sizes, then so be it. people are so hypocritical nowadays when they werent critical of these CW fights before. and some of these same people werent even watching boxing when SRL was fighting.

Not only did this ****sucker blatantly avoid two responses in a previous thread, but now he's attempted to drag this garbage over to this thread.Rather than inform you for the third time,I'll just copy and paste two previous posts that I made for you:

Outside of co-promoting a few of his major fights,Arum didn't have a damn thing to do with Leonard, you idiotic newb.He was the promoter of Hearns,Hagler and, after Don King got rid of him following his loss to Kirkland Laing,he was Duran's promoter. He certainly didn't have a damn thing to do with the development of Leonard as a star.

You wouldn't know this, though, because to know this, you'd have to have a reasonable amount of knowledge regarding this sport's history - and clearly you don't have that.

Conveniently avoiding my initial response,eh? You truly are a worthless scrub.

I'll repeat this just in case my last responses slipped over your tiny brain: Arum, not at any point in Leonard's career, had absolutely nothing to do with Leonard outside of helping to promote - which always involved one of Arum's own fighters, like a Hearns,Duran or a Hagler - a few of his major fights. He had nothing to do with the development of Leonard, and he had f^ck all to do with the negotiations of Leonard's fights, unless,of course, one of his own fighters was involved.

Consider yourself educated, you worthless f^cking newb.
