That is denial and it is being brought to you because you are the one with a serious problem, as is the case with Pacquiao fans. They are the worst of the bunch. The term "Rabid" gets thrown around so often when referring to them and I can't think of a better word. Actually, that was the first word that came to my mind before I had heard anybody refer to them that way, and I have heard others use it as well.

They're bad man. And if you don't notice it, then you are probably one of them and are in denial.
no one is denying that there are pac fans with serious problems. the issue here is that you are singling out the pac fans.

to use your illustration, a mother has five sons who are ALL drunks, and have serious problems with alcohol.

but she ONLY singles out the youngest. she is right in talking to her youngest son and pointing out his problem.

but she's wrong in NOT talking to the other four who have the exact same problem.

The thing is, to be a hardcore Mayweather fan you gotta actually like boxing. To be a Pacquiao fan, you just have to be Filipino.

My girl is half Filipino. Her dad is from the Philippines. Some of her aunts and cousins came last year and you wouldn't believe how offended they get about anything pertaining to Pacquiao. An article had mentioned that Pacquiao's car was found with guns and some other stuff (I don't remember) and they got very offended, like I was talking about their brother, and I wasn't even saying it in a demeaning way, I was just asking for any inside information that they may have seen on Filipino TV, because they are pretty wealthy over there so they're not like "3rd world people."

And those cousins of hers didn't know a thing about boxing, but they couldn't stop talking about how great Pacquiao is and how he would knockout Mayweather and I would venture to say they had never seen Mayweather fight, but had only probably seen clips of Mayweather beating Hatton at the Pacquioa/Hatton fight and listen to the commentators emphasize on how Pacquiao did it so much quicker.

To me, that's your average Pacqiao fan. It's hard to give credibility to a fighter who's fanbase is mostly nationalistic, because the Filipino's have no other fighters aside from Donaire. If blacks love Mayweather simply because he is black.... well.... They have an entire list of ATG's that I'm sure they love and follow as well, like Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, Tommy Hearns, Henry Armstrong, Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Aaron Pryor, and the list goes on and on up to Floyd Mayweather.

Mayweather doesn't just have fans for no reason.

Pacquiao has fans for no reason other than race - being Filipino (the majority).

I gotta ask, how many Filipino's were really on this site and really running around on boxing websites before Manny Pacquiao? My guess is a fraction of what is out there today.

*****'s may be just as dedicated, but without question many of them follow the sport more closely and follow more fighters.
That is very accurate, from my experience with them. Good post!

When Oscar and Tyson were in his prime, did they have equally rabid fans in large numbers?

I agree with the article, though. Pacquiao deserves the accolades and the attention that he's been getting. But he's not sacrosanct.

like i said before, pac fans are just like any fan base of any popular athlete, just multiply it by 100 (or more).

so whatever Pac fans have been doing, its nothing unique or new or different. nothing other fans have done in the past. its simply magnified several times simply because there are just so many of us.

and most likely the reason you were never red k'd by a floyd fan is because most of them are in the red themselves and SIMPLY CANNOT red k you.

i had the unfortunate experience of being red k'd by a floyd fan... and i wasn't even debating with him!

And that is the son in denial, saying he's not the one with the problem and it's just everybody else... He believes he is exactly like the others and that everybody else is just wrong. That's how addicts always feel...

            That is denial man.

After many debates with Floyd fans I would get green k that said "Nice debatin wit ya man." The reason I notice the Manny fans is because they are so much worse than Floyd fans.

There was some idiot that went and made an entire thread about me in the Pinoy Lang because I didn't like Manny's choice of opponent over the last few years.

I'm not saying Floyd fans are perfect cause there are idiots on both sides, but the *******s are worse, hence why there are a thousand video's on youtube about it and why there are now articles written on it.
cmon man. are you telling me no other athlete has a "rabid" fanbase? there really is nothing unique about what pac fans have been doing. racist rants on youtube? other fans have done that. trolling on sites? nothing new there. red k'ing anyone who disagrees with you? pacfans are certainly not the only ones to do so. are there other fans who are easily offended? yep. have there been people actually killed because of arguments over their favored fighters. of course!

but like i said before, there is just so many of us that whatever we do, its simply multiplied to an insane degree that it only SEEMS its extraordinary, when in reality, it really isn't.

that's one point the article brings up. *****s live in relative obscurity, trolling *******s in boxing forums... not much elsewhere.

are you kidding me? have you seen almost all the youtube videos? especially the boxing analysis videos? the overwhelming majority are done by young black men who fancy themselves as some important all knowing sage & do nothing but hate on pacquiao. live in obscurity? dont make me laugh. even in sports radio shows, the callers who call are overwhelmingly black guys. Black guys who have nothing better to do but complain about their team & think their opinions have so much weight when in reality they are petty, insignificant & trifling.

dude. didn't i already agree with you that there is a problem with rabid pac fans? i'm not denying that. yes, there are racist, irrational pac fans and it is indeed a problem.

my point is that those negative traits aren't exclusive to Pac fans.

                    i like that word.

i'm sure oscar and tyson had their own rabid fans in their prime.

but in numbers, i don't think they matched what Pac has. it would be safe to say that they are legion.

assuming pac has a total of 50 million fans. if even just 1% of that are rabid fans/trolls/irrational, that would mean that he'd have at least 500,000 rabid fans.

                    that's a lot of rabid.
