This is true, even looking back at the successful amateurs that defected before like Diosbelys Hurtado, Rolando Garbey and Jorge Luis Gonzales. Being a good amateur doesn't transulate to being a successful pro and many Cubans have tried.

Communism does not teach discipline it forces discipline, if it taught discipline the dudes would not have huge discipline issues when they came free because they would be disciplined.

They would be better off being free all along so they WOULD learn discipline.

what haha hater in the house lol, about losing their hunger forget it those kids would still come out of the slums wether cuba was capitalist or not. and about people talking about many cubans have tried i would like to argue against that, most of the cubans in the props nowadays were not even top 3 in their own division in cuba.

Solis is 50 pounds oeverweight so there is no way we would actually know how good he should;ve been, fok him

Lara is ok, probably a top 10, gamboa is a beast, rigondeaux is a beast,

and watch out for el maja who hits as hard or harder than gamboa

yoan pablo hernandez has been pretty succesful too, people here are exagerating if you got a couple of cubans in the top 5 of their own division guess what thats success however you look at it noone said 50% of the top 20 p4p list is going to be cuban

Why do people keep saying Cuba still wont do good at Pros because its soo different to ametuers....whilst int true to a point, you have to remeber that if Cubans were allowed to turn Pro, they would do so at a MUCH younger age, this is what people forget...........

But in 20 years or so I think Cuba will be a completely different place. the rest of their economy will soon match their excellent quality of medical care and education (for their resources). I also think they will start allowing their boxers to go pro.
wtf are you talking about? cuba has one of the WORST medical care and education systems in the world. lol @ TS for believing the propaganda.

you wanna know facts? in cuba high school teachers are 18-year-olds with very weak knowledge and the best way to get good grades is to **** them. yeah, ****, as in having sex with them. if your a male and your teacher is a female, you better give her a good doggystyle if you want good grades... if you're a female and your teacher is a male, you better be good at giving BJs. For graduate students, you don't have to defend your thesis anymore. All you have to do is throw a party, invite your directors, pay for their rhum and amusement, and they'll give you an A. that's the way education works in cuba right now. back then, education in cuba was one of the best. today it is easily one of the worst in the whole WORLD.

for the health system, don't believe what michael moores tells you...what you see in the movie is a hospital for foreigners that pay in dollars for the medical services. cubans aren't allowed there, even if they steal dollars, they won't be treated. go visit cuba and you'll see. there's no such thing as health care. yes it's free, because it nonexistent. you have hospitals, and poorly teached "doctors" inside, but you won't get healed if you get sick, because there's no medicine and because the education system sucks, hence the doctors sucks. again, this is now. years ago cuba had indeed the best doctors in the world. the new batches are all fake and their only existing purpose is propaganda...

it's sad but is the way it is.. cuba can't recover anymore, it's too late, it got destroyed from the inside... unfortunately cuba will eventually become another haiti.. even if the castros die today and their regime disappear, the damage is done, the country is destroyed and there's no infrastructure to build anything back

I disagree completely with your assumption that Cuba cannot recover. With the right investments and policies they can come back in 10 years easy so the 20 year span that TS gave is realistic in my view. The place that would likely suffer the most is Puerto Rico and some of the other popular places around the Caribbean.

I agree that things could end up improving quickly because if things change drastically there there will be a ton of resources flowing in.

I don't think Puerto Rico would suffer all that much though , other small countries that are much more dependent on tourism and aid from other countries probably would suffer.

In the end I think a healthy Cuba would greatly aid the region so any short term issues would get worked out over the long haul.
