I dont think so, because he moved back down right after. for example, when Mayweather moved up briefly to fight DLH at 154 and won a paper title, I dont think he was stripped of the 'lineal' title.

Yeah, but he kept his WBC 147 title and everyone knew he was moving up to 154 only because that's where DLH demanded the fight be at. When Erdei moved up to CW, I thought he stated that he was moving up in weight, which is why he even vacated his WBO 175 title.

I do think people are going...a little overboard giving Hopkins credit however. I mean...honestly, I thought he was more impressive in their first fight already, which he deserved to win and actually had to get off the deck to do it.

It was for the WBC light heavyweight title, "vacant diamond belt title", the Ring belt and the IBO. However Hopkins refused to pay the IBO sanctioning fee so that belt will now be vacant.

but he made history last night and for him to go into Montreal TWICE is pretty remarkable. Sure you can make an argument the first fight was more impressive, however a lot of people were saying there is no way he could pull it off twice in a row. the Ring magazine for example predicted hopkins would lose and that it's just too difficult to reproduce that kind of performance back to back.

hm. Honestly, I dont think there is any real 'official' ruling on it, and technically since he hasnt lost at LHW or lost at all and only jumped up to CW for one fight before coming back down, he would still have it. you basically keep the lineal title unless youre gone from boxing or lose, since no one can actually strip since its not a regulatory belt.

Yeah the IBO isn't really one of the 4 major titles.

WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF are the 4 major titles.
